Cookies and Cream protein!
Good morning, OHers! I just wanted to share what I had this morning for breakfast. As I told you all yesterday, I got some samples from Bariatric Eating of different brands/types of protein powders (my Mom bought me the sample starter kit). This morning, I had a Cookies and Cream protein shake. It was freakin' awesome! Just like Oreos! Here is the break down:
Syntrax Matrix Cookies and Cream 5.0:
Total fat per serving (8 oz): 2 g
Carbohydrates: 4 g
Sugars: 2 g
Protein: 24 g
I was so good. I'm going to get this one! Just wanted to share!

I don't know how I'm going to do the bowel prep of clear liquids. I've been trying to drink the broths, but YUCK! I have only been doing this for 4 days and can't take it anymore! I bought some Ramen Noodles last night and thought I would just drink the broth from that and skip the noodles. I've tried beef, vegetable, and chicken broth and even doctored them up like Becka said with spices or hot sauce, but I'm really having a hard time with them. I think today I'm just going to have a protein shake at breakfast, lunch, and dinner and then having sf jello, decaf ice tea and water in between. HOWEVER, on the positive side...this liquid diet REALLY takes the pounds off! Since Saturday, I'm down 7 pounds! (I do miss chewing, though! LOL!)

You can do this. I know how hard it is. But it's worth it. And you will be used to this after surgery. You will have found the stuff you like and the stuff you don't. I bought chicken noodle soup and drank the liquid from that. Another thing that helped was juices. I got several different kinds and switched them at each meal. Also, get some ice and mix it with juice, Crystal Light lemonade, SF koolaid and put in a blender and make a slush. I also did creamy soups with some skim milk in them to thin them down. I would strain the potatoes, broccoli, etc out of it.
If you don't swallow gum, I read some people say that they chewed SF gum just to have the feel of chewing during the liquid phase.
You are doing great. 7 pounds since Saturday is awesome. Keep it up. I have faith in you. This surgery is well worth it.

Oh, don't worry! I'm not giving up! Good idea about the soup and draining the liquid. I'm also loving the idea about making slushies. I am eating the heck out of SF jello...good thing I LOVE jello! Didn't think about having gum to chew on. That's a good idea as well! You're full of ideas, Laura! So good to have someone talk you down from the ledge! LOL!

Glad these help. And if you get really empty, try frozen yogurt with some skim milk and a sugar substitute packet. It's a lot less calorie version of a milk shake. This filled me up like nothing else but I only did one every few days.
I'm nearly a year out but I still have a lot of learning to do too.

I am 4 days post op and I don't know if you are doing just clear liquids or full liquids, but I found a favorite full liquid soup. I got the Cambpells Cream of Potato soup, added skim milk, and a slice of American cheese. I heated it up and then blenderized it. I got a really good cheesy potato soup. It is yummy. You could also do this with Healthy Request Broccoli Cheese soup. I am trying different protein drinks now. It is amazing how different they all taste. I've tried the Slim Fast low carb-not so good, Light Muscle Milk vanilla-not too bad, and the Chocolate Unjury-a little better.
Hang in there. Soon you will be trying to figure out your post op diet!

No, on clear liquids and protein shakes right now. BUT, will eventually be on full liquids and these are very good ideas. I LOVES me some cheese! The sharper the better!!
