Protien powder question
Hi ladies and gentlemen-
I went to the store and got some pre-op/post op foods and had some questions about protien powders.
I am looking at getting some protien powders for home after surgery. I realize my taste buds may change, but I was wondering what is considered LOW sugar - carb and calories numbers?
What do you find is a good starter protien? I used to use EAS when working out, but I think what I have may be too high in sugar.
Can you put protien into yogurt? I was wondering about that for later.
In the premixed I got some low carb versions. So, I bet they are fine.
What are your favorite protiens?
Thanks

hi teach,
I may have already told you, I can't remember, but my favorite is from sams club, atleast that is the cheapest place to buy it, it comes in 5 pound bags from like $28 something. last a long time, also I get the chocolate flavored kind. the bag is purple!!
eas 100% whey protein
23 grams high quality protein
3 gram total carbs
calories are 130 per scoop
total fat 2.5
sugars are 1 gram
this is for one scoop of powder and I mix it with about 4 oz. of super skim milk
it mixes so easily, I just can put it in a pint jar and shake it a few times, and it mixes so smoothly, I am one year out and still use this kind, I have tried other kinds but this is the best I have found.

As a general rule, my surgeon told me to stay under 15 total g of carbs and less than 5 g of sugar at one time................that will be for the first few months. Every Dr.'s office recommends something different so you my want to call your nut.
Protein powders..........not a big fan of them. I used the chocolate Whey Protein from wal-mart and a vanilla soy protein (can't remember the brand).
If you check out www.kaysnaturals.com, you can find some good high protein chips and pretzels for when you are farther out. If you call the 800 #, they may send you some free samples. Some people don't like them, but I am a big fan!
Also, www.revivalsoy.com used to send 4 free samples out. You can choose between the shake mixes and bars. Don't know if they still do it but it may be worth looking into.
Yes, you can put protein powder in yogurt :) A lot of people use the Unjury powder and even mix it in soups.
I know you must be soooo excited!!!!!

Body Fortress from Wal Mart is the only one that I could and still tolerate. The chocolate is great, just like mixing quick in your milk. I usually add fruit to the vanilla, but I am not a plain vanilla fan.
I tried ALL the others and always come back to Body Fortress. Jay Rabb's would be the closest second. It cost twice as much but it was doable in strawberry.

Thanks a bunch!!
I will keep on reading these posts to find out.
I tried the premade low carb slim fast today. Not bad, kinda odd grit, but hey I could live with it if I have to. I also have the EAS premade and will try one in the am...they have really low carbs. Hope they taste good.
I also am trying to make better eating choices. Hmmm. not easy as EACH of you all know, but I am trying to be better. My doctor says I have good habits - minus the bread.
I will try the fortress.
Ironically I looked at protien, took a picture (well 2) with my cell phone to have the name and ingredients and then Hubby was kind enough to get me a new memory card for my black berry. Ooops! he he he
thanks again..

***** This is my edit:: It is body fortress that I was looking at. Is 170 calories good? It seemed kinda high, but I do not know.
