Hi All

I just got my date yesterday - it'll be the 27th of this month.  Yes, I'm excited, that goes without saying; but also have tons of other feelings going on right now as well.

I've been reading through the Forums, my "Weight Loss Surgery For Dummies" book, talked to people that have had the lap-band and done internet research, all to get prepared.

Now I'm worried and a bit scared to be honest.  Is this normal or am I "making a mountain out of an ant hill"?

Also, is there anything else you might suggest that would help me to get ready?  I've read about the group meetings you go to - when and where are they?  Do you have to be post-op only to go?  Do you find them helpful for support?

Many thanks in advance,
Libby

Hi Libby
Hope you are well.
I am having RNY the 30th. I too have some of the same fears, but everything I have read is that this is completely normal.  Honestly I would be worried about us if we didn't have concerns. You should be concerned letting someone perform surgery on you, but that doesn't negate your surgeons skills. I have also read my books and made my lists.
I know ANYONE can go to a support group meeting and they encourage it. I have had some difficulty getting to them (prior commitments and driving).  I have been to two elsewhere and they are very helpful, envigorating and of course supportive.
I bet you do wonderfully!

Congrats and good luck

Libby I am a patient of Dr. Rodriquez and I had lapband in 07 of August and down 108 lbs its normal the way you are feeling.  There are 2 support grps per month  the 2nd Tuesday of the month at Nortons Pavillion downtown on Broadway and the 4th Thursday of the month at Suburban hospital and both of them are 6 to 7 PM .   If you have any questions you want to ask I am here to answer anything you have to ask. If I can't answer them I will refer you to someone that can

Congratulations Libby.  I think what you're feeling is perfectly normal.  My greatest fear was what if this doesn't work for me?  What if I fail?  So far, all has been great.  I was banded almost 6 months ago and am down 84 lbs so far.  I had always been a binge eater and the band really keeps that under a tight rein for me.  I feel so much better and only regret that I didn't do it sooner.

As far as support groups go, I think they are very important.  There are things you will go through that the people around  you on a daily basis will not understand, but other WLS patients will.  Of course, OH is a great resource too, but the face to face interaction is great!
