I have to add to that, Dr.Gellar reads the board and  answer's questions when he can.. He answered one of mine the other day.
As a band patient who has researched doctors closer to home, no surgeon will take another surgeons patient..  It is a no-no. I have looked and heard it all. So thanks Dr.Curry.. I appreciate the offer of making sure band patients get the care they need..
Any chance of doing free fluro's anytime soon? We may all have to make a road trip!! I hear your protein products are top notch!

I think you may be aware, but if not, our group Advanced Surgical Care/Advanced Bariatric Centers--three doctors (including Dr. Ryan Moon and Dr. Carey Brown) are caring for Dr. Sonnanstine's patients--and have been since the moment the change was announced by the hospital.  We assumed care for his postoperative patients still in the hospital Friday evening and have admitted other former patients of his to the hospital who have required care over the weekend and "on call".

An experienced Bariatric surgeon is available 24 hours per day through either our office or Tri-State Surgical Weight loss(we provide the same coverage).  We will be completing previosly scheduled surgery for several of Dr. Sonnanstine's former patients later this afternoon.

While the hours have been somewhat in excess of what we had anticipated, we are committed to seeing that patients get proper care.  We do appreciate the "thanks" we have received from many patients who have realized we are dealing with some of the same stresses they are with respect to the changes required.

Thanks,
Dr. Smith

I was one of his patients who dropped out because of what was going on at Deaconess in Cincinnati..  Nothing against you Dr. Curry but it did discourage me.  So I forgot about it for a long time.  I attended a work shop Brenda put together.  I was very impressed by her dedication to patients and the doctors.  She took up for Dr. Curry telling me this had nothing to do with his ability or him as a person...we talked a long time that night...I felt very good when I left about my decision to have this surgery.  It was after that I attended a seminar with another surgeon and for my own reasons chose to go there.   She has done a lot of work in this area and help many people who felt extremely lost with little compensation. Including that particular night talking to others who were bothered by what was going on at Deaconess hospital with Dr. Curry..She had nothing but good things to say about him as a person and a surgeon.
As for a patient advocate, I personally called on Brenda when my sister had gastric bypass and became ill..she came to her bedside and sat with our family in ICU.  Brenda was soft and kind.  she explained things to us. The surgeon was none of these involved and I can tell you he had nothing but respect for her.  My sister died and Brenda stayed with us until she was pronounced and even offered to drive us home as we were so upset...this is not something I find easy to talk about and sit here in tears while typing.  You would not know these things about Brenda because she doesn't feel the need to brag.  I also attended another seminar after my sisters death that she put together for Dr. Sonnanstine, it was obvious he had respect for her as she was telling him where to be and running him around from area to area.  putting on his microphone and coming to tell him his time was up in his talk. The connection was real and not self proclaimed.
I don't think any of this is fair to anyone, either Dr. Tom, Dr. Curry or Brenda without knowing them personally.   If you think her comment was unfair, those of you making snide comments about her better rethink..as your comments are much more harsh.  shame on you!

Yep, same here.  I had surgery by Dr. Tom and knew going in I may have problems because of other health issues. I had been turned down by two other bariatric surgeons.  While going through the class I met Brenda for the first time.  When he was done with his video and talk, he asks Brenda to come forward.  She talked about her extensive training with Dr. Tom, I believe it was one year total with 6 months of it in the OR. She was very genuine and caring.  .  I think that's just her way or teasing.
Later the day of surgery I ask Brenda if she would be there.  She came in to see me before surgery, walked me into the holding area and was standing there when Dr. Tom came through.
Before he left he gave her a little hug and thanked her for being there.  They took my sugar it was sky high.  She quietly sat down and talked to my husband and me about the possibility of going to ICU when I awake.  While I was in surgery she stayed with my family, explained it all again to them.  (Now this is my husband's account) when Dr. Tom was finished he came in to talk to my family.  First thing he told them was he would be more comfortable if he sent me to ICU.  My husband stated he was aware and comfortable with it all.
He was completely prepared.  I was only there one night then moved to the floor.  I ask for Brenda because I wanted to thank her.  Dr. Tom didn't comment so I wasn't sure if I would see her or not.  By that afternoon, she came walking into my room with this huge smile.  I can't thank her enough, because she was there my family was so comfortable.  They never sat around wondering what was going on, she kept them informed at all times.  That is what a patient advocate is.
It seems to me the ones really making all the noise aren't involved in what is going on anyway, so why not just let things die down instead of keeping it going!

Regardless of anyone's opinion of Dr. Curry's offer it still doesn't justify rude behavior.  ESPECIALLY since he was not rude to others in any such form.

I can only imagine the degree of emotions Dr. S's crew are going through right now but that's really no excuse.  Allegiance is great but so are options to some of the people who may not want or be able to make that drive to Georgetown and don't want to continue with the new doctors either.

I am not a patient of Dr. Curry's but I am thinking STRONGLY of doing so when my Dr. Larson retires.  This past fall he offered a FREE FLUORO FRIDAY for ANYONE who wanted to make the drive to come see their band in action.  Seeing how as my husband and I are both self-pay we jumped on that knowing that keeping track of our band's health is majorly important.  Know how much that would have cost me at my hospital??  I don't either but I'm going to assume at least $500 a piece once you add in the doctor's fee and the hospital's fee (my group does not have one on suite).  And you know what Dr. Curry wanted in return??  NOTHING.   We got 30 minutes of his time and saved about $1000.  Did we get a sales pitch in the process??  Not one word!  So maybe it's not always about the advertising ladies.

For me and my husband, thank you once again Dr. Curry.

Ladies, what ever happened to a simple, "Thanks, but no thanks"?

Is anyone offering to care for post op patients of Dr Tom that are not banded? Dr Tom did a hernia repair and a skin removal on my tummy on 2/4. I ended up with a strep infection and then c diff. Neither of which have been much fun. I finally got home from the hospital on Friday 2/27, right before Dr Tom went to see admin and then left the building for good.

I am calling around looking for someone to take over my post op care but not having much luck.
