I am looking for information on side effects/botched surgeries for the bypass. If you have had issues or complications since the surgery could you please share with me what has happened? Even if you know someone and it is not personally you please reply. I am in desperate need of this info!!!!!!!!

Since being a former Kentuckyian, I would like to respond. Please go to the "revision" weight loss surgery board and you will read about people who have had problems with the GB. Some people vomit forever and have such problems, they have to have a revision if they are willing to go under the knife again. I had a problem, as many have, of not losing all my weight and then gaining back a good portion or more than before. I am going to have the DS (duodenal switch) WLS. Check out our forum. Also, check out duodenalswitch.com or DSfacts.com for info on this wonderful surgery. I wish I had done it in the first place and not the GB. The GB does work well on some people, but a good portion it does not. You just never know who it will work on or not. Once you have the DS, there is no better surgery.

I think it's different for everyone.

Certainly your surgeon or facility should be sharing that information, it's not something they want to hide.

I have side effects, but not from a bad surgery or anything. Obviously you shouldn't be able to eat the same amount again, and sometimes that's frustrating. I still can't handle carbs and sugar very well, but I figure it's a small price to pay for losing over 200 pounds in less than 2 years. I do get sick on occasion, but it's almost always my fault.

There is a huge list, from being more careful when you are pregnant to having low blood counts, etc. But if you have true concerns, you should speak with your doctor/surgeon or someone in their office.

Good luck.

The complications I had were the ones you would have picked if you had to choose something to go wrong. I had a stricture, twice. It was stretched out by Dr Geller at UC and all was well.

Now, about 2 1/2 years later and 200+ lbs lighter, I would do it again in a heartbeat. Remember this is only a tool, not a fix. Without making the changes needed, this tool won't work for long.

I have to still watch what I eat as far as carbs or sugars as they make me ill. I can have one cookie, but I feel the second and the third will make me sick as a dog. So, I will enjoy the occasional one cookie or one small slice of cake and be thankful that I feel the ill effects if I have more.

Bread is also still an issue for me. I can have it toasted, but yeast type rolls gum up on me and cause me problems.

Meat is something that I used to LOVE.... now I have to eat it because I need it, not because I care for it. Strange, but doable.

I know several people that feel their surgery has failed because they have put back on the weight and some cases even more. Their diets would argue their claim, although I am sure that there have been cases of unknown origin. This surgery, is a tool. It is only 1 tool in a lifelong battle most of us will have with weight control. Hoping that this surgery will make everything better, is not being fair.
