Protein Only

OK, I posted this last week on the Lap-Band forum, but I was told it may be a good idea to repost here so I am reposting! Any help is appreciated.

I had my last fill in the January 15. I think I am perfect for now as far as restricition! Yay! My doctor (Dr. Shina)  told me then to eat ONLY meat and maybe occasionally eggs. Basically 100% protein. I have done this and the weight is falling off. Occasionally I "cheat" with a tbl of green beans or a little bit of salad, but thats it.

Has anyone else's doctor recommended this for them? He said it wasn't forever just until I got down to a more manageable weight. (I was 279 at the appt time I am 248 now.) If you have done this, how long? Did you gain weight when you added a few good carbs back into your diet?

Thanks for the help

No, I wasn't told that.  My doctor told me to eat around 1000 calories but I'm doing closer to 1200.  Also, I'm supposed to eat the protein first but not just limit myself to protein.

I keep mine around 1000-1200
Alot of protein, healthy carbs and fruit for me....

Only meat is like the Atkins diet and that is bad for your liver.. IMO

Hi, welcome to the kentucky board!! Im Dr. Shina's patient too!!
I do protein first, then veggies, then carbs IF I have room. I usually dont.  I drink 60 to 80 ounces of water a day and get atleast 60 grams of protein in a day.. I do try to keep my calories at 1200 or less at all times but sometimes they slip..
  Have a great day!!

Nope, never been told this.  Was told to eat 6 small meals consisting or protein first veggies second then carbs if I was still TRULY hungry.  And to eat 4 oz lean protein each meal.  Never told to eat only protein, just prioritize my eating for ideal nutrition.  ALso, he never discussed calories with me, actually refused to discuss calories and said as long as I am losing 1-2 lbs a week to keep up the good work.  Each person is different and where my exercise and fitness levels may require one amount of claories, someone else's body requires a different amount.  I keep it 1100-1300 and try to keep protein higher than carbs.

I'm a patient of Dr. Shina's, too.  I've heard the same thing from him, too.  Once the weight is down then you can slowly start to add carbs, veggies, fruits, etc.  I think with an all protein diet you tend to lose weight faster which can tend to keep you more motivated to keep it up. ( works for me).  Congrats on your loss so far!
