May I share a PMM?

PMM***proud Mom moment'

This weekend my son went to the districtsof Govenors cup for his school. He tested in two areas and was on quick recall. The kids did a great job. Coaches were brand new this year as we are a new school. My son took 2nd place among all the schools represented in social studies.  I was somewhat surprised.  Quick recall did not do real well, but I do not fault anyone it was only their 1st big competition BUT,  the future problem solvers took 1st.  There are 3 other 4th graders who placed and one who did not place, but will move on. One of the 4th graders took 1st in math. He is a wizzz..   Apparently the children did a very good job as the entire team (from a new school) took 2nd place!!!

WOW... Makes me realize how much i dislike this School system we are in.. We don't have any of those opportunities!!

I'm a retired teacher who used to work with kids who participated in the Governor's Cup Academic Team competitions.  If your school doesn't have an academic team you could suggest they start one.  My daughters both participated and they took tests at the regional meets - sometimes they participated in quick recall matches, but they were mostly used for written tests and essays.   It starts about the 4th grade I think and they continue this (if they want to participate) through high school.  My girls didn't go to any regional meets after middle school - but they did do academic team and quick recall for the fun of it (they weren't any good at it but they had fun!)

YEA!!!!  Go teach boy child!  My daughter was in academic team through grade and middle school, so great for them!
