I just heard from Georgetown and they said Dr. Tom will be starting there on April 1st.  If you want to get on the patient call list call 502-570-3717.  At least we won't have to wait too long!

All I know is that I feel so abandoned. I had  surgery then got an infection which ended up costing me another three weeks in the hospital. I was released and am still having issues but no more Dr Tom. This isn't right.

I don't know much about the other doctors. Dr Smith did operate on my mother a couple of years back, and she was fine. Other than that, the only thing I know are what has been posted on the OH board. I don't know anything about Dr Moon or Dr Brown although they have both called me over my care and seem knowledgeable and concerned.

What I am more afraid of is being caught up in the politics of this event while I am still under their care. From the Smith group, I can only imagine their position of stepping up to "clear up" another doctor's patients post op care. I can understand being cautious because of not knowing the history of the patients, having not performed the surgery, etc.

I just need to get well. My infection should never have happened. Doesn't matter where, or why, it was something that should not have happened. My care while in the hospital was unbelievable! I will not go into details other than to say if you are ever admitted to SLH PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have someone stay with you at all times.

Ok...so I have been sitting back and thinking about what I want to say here.  First of all, this is a support site.  I think those that are Dr. Tom's patient need all the support we can get right now.  I have known for about a month that he was leaving and I have been devistated ever since.  I WILL be following him to Georgetown...Heck, I'd follow him just about anywhere.  I think it really stinks that his loyal patients were not notified officially that this was happening.  I "believe" that he was also under some time of gag order that he could not "talk" freely to his patients about what was going on.  Anyone that has spoken to him knows that he has been having issues and discussions with the Administration for some time.  What those talks are about, I haven't a clue.  I honestly was not completely surprised when I heard the news.  That being said, I am angry and feel very abandoned.   The first time I met this man and he told me I was a good candidate for the lap band...he explained that our relationship would continue - forever.  This was a life changing and life long decision.  I made that commitment and I know that we all did.  I know that this was a very difficult decision to make personally and professionally.  Think about it, would he do this to his patients?  Really....all of us know that the answer is a big NO!!  So, it has to be something else...the administration that does not see what he is doing and why he does what he does the same way.  He will never back down on his beliefs if he truely believes he is doing what is best for his patients.
As much support as we need...I agree to that.  However, we can sit her and gripe and cry about what is going on.  We can slam the new doctors coming into the practice...or filling in...WHATEVER.  It isn't THEIR fault...I get that.  We had a choice when we picked a surgeon...that choice is now gone ... at this center.  We can still choose to go somewhere else.  Don't FORCE me to see a doctor that I don't want to see.  I have told many people on this site that picking a surgeon is a very personal decision.  We all LOVE OUR surgeon.  We see them as GODS that have saved our lives.  I'm sure that many of Dr. Smith's patients feel the same way.  I know that people feel the same about Dr. Curry and everyone else.  Does it make them right and us wrong....heck NO.  We are just going to defend our doctor...that's all.
So, here is my suggestion.....if you TRULY are upset.  If you TRULY are disappointed, disgusted, angry and want to be heard... this is NOT the place to do it.  Support - Yes.  If you want to get the message across to those that really need to hear it....WRITE TO THE ADMINISTRATION, THE OFFICE MANAGER, THE CEO, THE FRIGGIN PRESIDENT...WHOEVER.  I can assure you, they are not reading this...they probably don't have a clue about the impact of this.  So, I encourage everyone to take your frustrations to where they belong....join me in telling these cluess people what we REALLY think.  What can they do, fire me as a patient at their facility?  Lol....
Can we all find someplace for support group????

Knowledge is Power!  I now have the knowledge and power to change.
