But here is my question, is Dr. S really leaving St. Luke?? he is going to Georgetown? can anyone confirm? and who is taking over his job? It can't really be Dr. Dwayne Smith, can it?
I won't go back to St. LUke if Dr. S isn't there. Where is everyone else going? I am sorry but Georgetown is to far for me.
I wrote Brenda as she always seems to be in the know, but I haven't heard back from her. What happened to her?

Yes it is true. Dr. S is leaving. Dr. Sonnastine told us himself in one of the classes that he is indeed leaving. His plans to be at St Luke until July 1 I think. He told us the program would continue at St Luke but without him. He said he was leaving for philosophical reasons.
They (St Luke) were wanting to take the program in a direction he did not want to go. When he spoke with us there was actually a representative from St Luke there to answer questions. As a result Dr. Sonnastine was selective in what he said to the class.
Many people at the time spoke of making a "road trip" to Georgetown in order to keep Dr. S as their doctor. I personally plan on being one of those people.

Hey Kit..sorry I am MIA most of the time. I am so involved in the breast center right now I can't keep up with emails and message boards. I do however, keep up wth Dr. Sonnanstine..he and I talk frequently and have and will remain close. He will be at Georgetown on July 1st..and will remain at St. Luke until his time is up in June.
Dr. Sonnanstine will be a great asset to G-town ..and a perfect fit..I am so excited for him and his new adventures. I think what everyone needs to realize is that Dr. Sonnanstine came to St. Luke as a rookie surgeon..just starting out with a new program..he has grown and matured so muich in this industry..he is well liked by his patients and respected by his peers. It is time for him to move on..I have watched him busting out at the seems as he has just simply grown ..if your hospital or the center or company can't grow with you..then it's time to move on. I applaud him..I could not be more supportive and excited..not just for him but his wife and boys as well..they can't wait to move to their new house, new school and new area. nothing worse than seeing your husband or dad frustrated daily with what goes on at work ....so please, be understanding..I have heard many of his patients have already ask for their records..I personally will do that same but will wait a bit closer to time for him to leave..as you never know if you might need at surgeon at the last minute (been there, done that) he has been there for me many times..I know Gtown is a bit far to travel...but I am sure I will be making future road trips as well...I don't trust anyone else!!!

As the other posts confirm, he is leaving.
I know we (my family, husband, etc) will be making the trips to Georgetown for our appointments, but we are also only seeing him once a year most of the time at this point.
I will continue to go to St L b/c that's where my ob/gyn is and we'll be delivering our baby there this summer, but for the WLS stuff, I'll truck it to Georgetown.
