Vitamins - the dreaded daily dosage
I need to start this thread because I really respect everyone's opinion. I guess this pertains more to my RNY buddies than my lapband ones, but anyone can weigh in.
What kind of vitamins do you take and do you take umpteen supplements in addition to the multi-vitamin? I'm trying to cull down the number of vitamins I'm taking into a manageable number! Right now Dr Oldham has me on multivitamin (2/day), calcium citrate (3/day), B1, B12 sublingual, Vitamin C with iron, potassium (my levels were low), and Vitamin D.
I bought a Bariatric Advantage "super" multivitamin that is supposed to provide everything we need in one pill 4 times a day. When I read the label it looks like it would cover everything, but the nutritionist at Georgetown says it doesn't. Argh!

Hello there,
Be very cautious with those expensive bariatric vitamins. They list everything we need, however some of the things cannot be taken together. For example: Optisource. It has Calcium and Iron both, and as you probably already know these two compete for absorption. Not only that, it has the wrong kind of Calcium for us RNY patients. We need Calcium Citrate, not Calcium Carbonate. They seem like a great deal because it's one pill, 4 times a day and that's it, when in reality you aren't getting what you need.
Sorry for the mini-rant! lol
I take 2 Multivitamins, B complex, 2 calcium, b12 in the morning and at night I take 2 Multivitamins and 2 calcium. I was supposed to take iron but my goodness it is really hard on my pouch.
