Today I am 1 year out, my surgiversary, I feel pretty good, and am planning on going back to school this fall. the only thing is ,I am 44 and dont know what i want to be when I grow up, lol.

I am thinking of something in the medical field,  or special ed. teacher,  do any of you know what would be a good job, easy to get that pays well?

I have the ball rolling already, have applied for college, got my transcript from morehead, etc. I do have to start tutoring next week in algebra,. lol.

I also want to thank everyone on here that has helped me, and given me advice over the last year. I am struggling everyday with my weight now, so the first 11 months is an easy ride, but now it is a fight for me everyday. next week, on Monday, I am planning on doing the 5 day pouch test, to see if I will start eating less.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!     I am in school as well and will graduate with my second degree in July!  Nursing pays well, hours suck; my sister is a special ed teacher-pay sucks but is very rewarding.  Both careers are in desperate need of good people.  Good luck on whatever you choose!

Hi Lisa!!  Happy Surgiversary!!!

The medical field is always something that will be around regardless of economic reasons.  But what is your passion??  My passion was 911 dispatching. I LOVED that career. However, due to my hearing impairment, I had to leave that field.  I have felt lost ever since.  So what excites you? What really interests you?
I know that Yahoo has a lot of good information on salaries of most professions.  Here is the link:  http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/career-articles-career_trends_to_wa tch_this_year-647

Have a great day Lisa!!
Blessings to you all, Leah

Very cool, Leah!
I did not know you were a dispatcher.
I dispatch for the city (very small city) of Martin :) Police/Fire.

It's a great job, I love it.

 Hey Lisa,

Happy Surgiversary!  I'm a Speech Pathologist in a county school system and I can tell you any Special Ed. teaching you might be interested in will be an area that always needs people.  Check into Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy- they are always desperate for people in those areas.   At least you are interested in making a change and realize the challenges ahead.

You go girl!

thank you ladies,
you are all an inspiration to me,
I love kids, but I also am interested in medical work, i gues I know quite a bit about medical stuff. from my family being through so much, as an example, my dad had diabetes, open heart surgery, bad back with surgerier and asbestosis, my mom had a brain hemmorage at 28 years old, was paralyzed on one side till she died, she had blood clots in lungs, copd, osterperosis, and the list goes on and on.
So I can say helping to care of them for years, has led me to have some knowledge in the medical field, and ny best friend is a nurse,  I am leaning toward that I think, I just don't want to have to work in nursing homes, because I know how they treat people in them, and I would get fired for standing up for things i know is wrong, if I could get one in a dr. office, I think I would love that, but I think those jobs are hard to find, maybe after I start college, I will realize then what I want for sure.
as what i would really like to do is travel the country, lol.

Lisa, there are traveling nurses agencies where you do both-take a 3-9 month job in a location and also get to travel.  The agency pays your travel expenses and rent (and usually everything except cable and phone) and you also earn a salary.   Possibility?

I know nurses are in great deman.  Check with your local hospitals.  Some will pay your tuition providing you sign a contract to stay in their employ for a period of time.  If you chose teaching go for the upper grades as early education (jobs are hard to come by) my has her masters and still have not found a job and she went all the way to Florida, then went back for English as a second language. But I do have 3 sisters who are Rn's and 1 who is an OT.  OT's make great money. One sister works for a home health agency and gets paid $70 an hour since OT are in short supply.  Good Luck. Amy

Hey Lisa!

Where are you going in the fall, which college? I am also going back to the local community college here in Prestonsburg.

I am going to study Social Work.
What about Respiratory Therapy? Or something like Xray tech.? You have soooo many options, gal and you have plenty of time to pick a major while taking some basics

Good Luck,
Katrina
