Do you stare at fat people?
I copied this from another OH members post on the DS board - it was thought provoking and thought I would bring it over here.
This goes for pre-op-post op whoever..... I'm curious to how people who have had surgery view other people, how people who haven't had surgery view obese people and how and if your view points with weight loss surgery have changed since you're no longer in the "fat" category
Do you stare at fat people and what do you think if you do?
Do you feel sorry?
Do you feel angry?
Do you feel ashamed?
Do you say in your head " Gosh, do I look like that?"
Do you say " oh my god, I can't believe I used to look like that"
Do you say " i will NEVER look like that!!"
Do you relate?
Do you criticize?
Do you laugh?
Do fat people make you feel disgusted?
Do you cry?
Do you look in the mirror and still see the fat person who once existed?
Do you still go to the section of the old size clothing you used to wear even though your new selection of clothing has so much more variety?
Do you wonder why people have always associated obesity with negativity? Why is it such a focus of society.. even if health was not related, but just the looks of someone overweight...
What has your experience been with people who used to criticize you and now no longer recognize you...
Do you feel accepted?
Does it make you angry that you are offered more jobs, dates, clothing sizes, or any opportunities now that you are " normal " ?
Do you smile when you stare at fat people?
I do.... and maybe its just because I know what its like to be them.. and sometimes someone smiling at you is the only thing that got you through a day from hell... on top of being chubby

I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you. Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information. Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

I am still extremely overweight so i figure im still getting the looks of omg she is so fat and etc.
I will say i walk with my head alittle higher now than a year ago.
But i do look at overweight people and i smile or start up a conversation because i am there and a smile is like a hug without the physical contact.
So after years of trying to get acceptance from my sils now that i have lost 200 pounds and 17 years later i have it.
Did i grow on them heck no its the weight loss and now i dont want their acceptance.
So smile at us dont look at us in disbelief and think how did they get so big, getting big is the easy part losing it is the hard part.
Thanks Vickie

Great post!! Makes you stop and think that's for sure!
I find that I try to be overly nice to heavier people I now meet and cross pathes with. I used to be where there are right now and but for the grace of God (and my band) I could still be there! We are all the same regardless of weight and it drives me crazy when people think they are so much better than their neighbor. We are all the same....flesh, blood, bones, emotions.
Mind if I copy and post this on the band board to get a few more minds thinking positively this morning?

Great Post!
I can relate and honestly, I have thought , "They would feel so much better if they lost weight". Because I know what it's like to be fat and I know how much better and happier I feel.
I do make an effort to talk to people who are obese. Because it means a lot to not be ignored. God knows people tend to shun the obese. I am a people person anyway so I tend to talk to everyone! lol
I still feel very angry at the fact that I get treated differently now that I have lost weight. Being newly single, I get a lot more attention from men. But, damn, there are some shallow ones out there. Even those that hold doors for me now or simply strike up a conversation waiting in a check out line. Because sometimes, it is obvious that they would not have given me the time of day before.

Damn...you actually made me think this am! I have to agree with Lisa....I am still in that boat even though I know what I used to look like and what I look like now is way better! Especially from the backside baby! The shelf butt is now a ledge butt! Woooo Hoooo
But I am like Becka and talk to more people now. I want to share my story and let them know that if they want to do it they can. I never bring it up...I wait until they do. I have seen a couple people here in town that have lost and adked them how they have done it...they are quite proud to share that they have also had surgery, And I thought I was alone here in the sticks!

Do you stare at fat people and what do you think if you do?
I do, just simple because I want to help them.
Do you feel sorry?
Yes, I want to help
Do you feel angry?
No
Do you feel ashamed?
Yes, That I let myself go, and did not get control
Do you say in your head " Gosh, do I look like that?"
Yes
Do you say " oh my god, I can't believe I used to look like that"
Yes
Do you say " i will NEVER look like that!!"
Yes, but I have been out 3 1/2 years and I still feel really fat
Do you relate?
Yes
Do you criticize?
No
Do you laugh?
At the overweight people? No.
Do fat people make you feel disgusted?

Do you cry?

I think people think obese people are stupid and have no feelings. If you get upset they want to say it is your weight that makes you upset, not what is going on.
What has your experience been with people who used to criticize you and now no longer recognize you...
Now they want to say you are too thin. How stupid is that.
Do you feel accepted?
No, I feel more alone.
Does it make you angry that you are offered more jobs, dates, clothing sizes, or any opportunities now that you are " normal " ?
Yes
Do you smile when you stare at fat people?
I just want to hug them.
You know that we all want to be thin, and thin people have as many issues as overweigt people just different issues. It would just be nice if society would except people they way they are, not by the clothes they wear, skin color, hair color, or the size they are.
