Hi Everyone
Hey, I have been around for the last couple of months. Just wanted to say Hi to everyone. I am in Louisville and a patient of Dr. Shina's. I still am so excited from yesterday. Getting all my clearances is just amazing. Just 8 days to go.
I am married. I have 4 kids, 22, 18, tw 11. We have 2 dogs and 3 cats. I work full-time. We are busy like everyone else. My husband is very supported of this surgery. I have been lurking around this website since 2003. I was afraid to have bypass when my twins were little. Then, I was ready to have lap band, but my insurance had excluded obesity related by that time. So, for years I have been yo-yo-ing with 50 lbs. Edith Jarboe was my doctor till she closed her practice with health issues.
I started researching last fall. I really cannot believe it is my turn. I know I will be scared at some point, but right now.... I AM SO EXCITED!
Hope everyone is well and with power. Just think of all the exercise cleaning up all those broken tree limbs. Take good care of yourselves.

Hi Becky!
What a Valentines present you are giving yourself..haha
Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. I wish you all the best. Dr. Shina is my dr also. This was the second best thing I have ever done for myself (besides getting married recently).
It has changed my life in so many ways...physically, mentally and all that.
Do you have everything ready for home after surgery? Bag packed, tried any protein shakes? Make sure to pack a robe & slippers so you can walk, walk, walk those halls.
This is definitely an exciting time...CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Hi, welcome and congrats on your upcoming surgery. Good for you for doing your research, I like to push new people to do that so I don't have to give you my research speech, WOW! Happy to have you here and even happier the temps are going up today! woo hoo
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you. Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information. Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

Hello to yet another "Norton's Gal"
Congrats, good luck and speedy healing on your upcoming surgery!
Do you plan to come to the support groups?? We'd love to meet you one day! Most of us do the downtown meeting but I do plan on making it out to the Suburban meetings again during the summer months as my daughter's school schedule keeps me hopping and I can only make it to one a month right now.

Welcome and congratulations! Dr. Shina did my RNY on Dec 19, 2008 and I am so glad I had this done. I haven't weighed for 2 weeks but at 5 weeks out I had lost 55 lbs. and feel great! He was actually worried that I had lost weight too fast and had me do an upper GI and upped my meals to 6 a day (which I had a hard time working in). Anyway, my weight loss slowed down and everything is fine. Starting off at 428 lbs means I have a long way to go, but this "tool" has made it possible for me to make smart decisions and I don't have the excruciating cravings I used to have.
I have 2 daughters, one 18 and one almost 20 - one's in college and the other is a senior in high school. I am a Louisville native but have lived in southern KY for 22 years now - am hoping to move back to Louisville after my youngest graduates from high school. I have been meaning to get to the support group meetings but so far I haven't made it. I think I really need it now though - I am over all the soreness and now I just need some spark and excitement from knowing others who are going through the same thing - I don't want to get the "blahs" as the newness wears out.
Anyway, I hope we get to meet sometime and I wish the best of luck to you - I'd say you've got the best Dr. around!
Hugs,
Cindy

Tracy, TracyB, Vicki, Debbie, Lisa, Cindy, Becka and LeeAnn,
Thanks for making me feel welcome. I know this is a tool and a lifestyle change and all of the facts. However, I am sooooo happy. I am still amazed that it is finally my turn. You guys will be hearing from me a lot more. My BFF is sick of listening to me. It will be nice to talk to people with the same issue. Happy almost Friday. One more week!!!
See ya!!
