I blogged this but knew ya'll would read here first! Love ya...and grab a protein shake. This is a pretty long one!

So I am officially 9 DAYS POST OP. I feel good. After suffering through a power outage and hoping that the trees that surround our house didn't completely colapse on us, we are out of the hotel and BACK at home.

So my surgical story:
I went to the hospital on the 22nd at around 9:45. I was immediately moved to pre-op where me and the hubby watched bad daytime T.V. until it was time to go into surgery. My Dr. and my anest. are comedians so I laughed until I was under. I woke up in recovering in pain, but that was quickly remedied by a nurse with great precision with a syringe. I remeber my hubby comming back to recovery and talking to me, and me snapping on a nurse b/c they were talking about me like I wasn't awake. Then I was rolled to my room. Room 4M02. I then had the worst night. The nurse that was there was horrible. The morphine pump was not delivering and I was in pain. I hit it EVERY six minutes, and I still got no relief. Yet. she would not call the dr. I was on my period and I asked iof she would help me get a new pad on. This heifer procedes to snatch the pad that I have on and just stick another in between my legs. If I was up to it I would have slapped her. Then came morning. After a visit from 2 dr.s my pain med was changed and I got 2 new nurses who had to be sent from heaven. Mary and Ms. Mittie helped me in every way possible. I then went for my Barium Swallow. DIsgusting to say the least. Yet I passed with flying colors.
ALL HAIL THE PURPLE POPSICLE, FOR IT IS FLAVORFUL AND TASTES LIKE STEAK DINNER AFTER RNY!!!! I was then put on clear liquids to see how I would take them. I had a cup of broth...okay 30cc's of broth and had a time getting that down, but I did and it was okay. Then I walked. I was cleared by physical therapy b/c I basically SKIPPED down the hall. Catheter and all. I begged to get that out and they finally gave in, two hours later I was using the bathroom like a grown woman and I had my own panties own!!! By this time it was bed time and I was very tired. Hubby visited all day and I sent him home to sleep b/c they (nurses) come in and bother you ALL NIGHT LONG. Along with sleep came a SHIFT CHANGE and here we go again with nurses who were less than adequate to work in Bariatrics. Well with Sunrise came strained oatmeal. Now I am a BIG GIRL and there are not too many things in my lifetime that I would turn down but I tasted that **** and had to pass. I asked could i have something else and that answer was no. Lunch came and there was tomato soup and I very much dislike that too but I choked it down. My surgeon came to see me. All my incisions looked good, and that JP drain had to go. The morning nurses did too. Teirani was the HNIC (head nurse in charge) and she ignored me like the plauge. I only cry when I am mad and I broke down crying twice. Had I been 100% she would have gotten broke down. Anyway Dr. Tanner asked if I wanted to go home and I said yes. So I had to get that JP drain removed. HOLY COW!!! I had NO IDEA I had 18 inches of tubing in me. It felt like it came from my lungs when he pulled it. It didn't hurt but was uncomfortable as hell. After laying on the bed to regain my composure for a few, I packed up and changed ready to go home. Overall, on a scale of 1-10 I give my hospital experience a 6. Oh I forgot that I had to practically BEG for water...They kept saying I couldn't have it, but I was off I.V and on full liquids... Yeah whatever.

Fast Foward to yesterday....
I was supposed to go see Dr. Tanner next week for my 2 week appt but ended up seeing him yesterday b/c I had an inceision that was swollen like a baseball. It had started to go down but I was freaked out. In comes my comedian Dr. Tanner.

Dr. Tanner: (Pokes Me)
me: OWWWWW......
Dr. Tanner: Oh it hurts there (Pokes me again and chuckles)
Me: Yes dammit....
Dr. Tanner: Your okay I healed you through the phone....
Me: Thanks Jesus..can you turn this water into wine too..
Dr. Tanner: Did that in the operating room.

5 mins later

Me: Oh and I have this mysterious bruise
Dr.T: I punched you an the operating table (bounces like he is Evander Holyfield)

God I love my Dr. Anyways he tells me not to come see him next week and says that I can procede to soft foods a week early for one week instead of two and then introduce new foods.  YES DAMNIT... SO I know you are waiting for it. I am 17 pounds down... I am an even 300 lbs. Water is very hard to get down so I drink more juice diluted with water. Berry Juicy Juice is my friend. I am very happy right now and don't regret a thing!!!!

congrats on the loss and the oh so speedy recovery!
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

That's unfortunate that you had some bad nurses but at least you didn't have to stay long and your Dr rocks!! So maybe that makes up for the bad service!

Congrats on your success for far and best of wishes to you in your journey. Its all just beginning so hang on tight...you're in for a wild ride!!!!

Hey Tiffany, Great to hear from you becasue I know you had to go to a hotel for awhile didn't you. I can't imagine just getting hime from surgery and then having to move to a hotel to recover. I go in Tues. and hope I have a better experience than you did but I'll do some shadow boxing in case they don't listen! Great job on 17 lbs down and especially the part about not regretting a thing- I've got the jitters now since my day is so close. Keep us posted. Dana

Dr. Tanner is the bomb isn't he??  I'm going to have to toss a coin between him and Dr. Curry when my Doc Larson decides to hang up his white coat!

Glad to hear things are going well so far.  Too bad we all aren't on here right now to support you and bug you!

I can't wait for the weather to improve and everyone to get their power back.  I'm missing my OH buddies and everytime I think I've got internet back it goes out on me....makes for some VERY long days!
