Lost almost 100 pounds since Gastric Bypass Sugery and now I am stuggling with food again.

I had gastric bypass surgery on 7/11/08.  My highest weight was 300 pounds. The day of my surgery I weighed 297 pounds.  I now weigh 203 pounds.

I did really well with the food plan from July to October.  The day after halloween, I ate some halloween candy and found out that I don't really have dumping from sugar.  Over the holidays I let myself have treats with sugar.  I also got back into the snacking habit.  Usually it is sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, pretzels or sugar free candy.  And I started eating bread!!  But I was still losing.

Since the holidays, I have stopped losing weight and this past week I gained 1 pound.  I don't like the direction I am heading!  I need to get back onto the 3 meals a day without snacking, sugar or bread.  I wish I never tested myself.  I wish I could get back to how I was eating before the holidays.  But I have been having a hard time getting back on track.

Has anyone else experienced this and found a way to get back on track?

Hang in there Michelle.
I have even went back to the original phase diet plans I got before surgery.
Pre-planning my meals and snacks help.
When I have head hunger and not real hunger - I refer to my "Coping Skills List"   Things to do other than eat!   I think I have them posted on one of my blogs from April 08.

When all else fails.............I brush my teeth.........that makes me not want to eat because food doesn't taste good immediately after brushing and I'd rather have clean teeth!  Weird, I know.  But it works for me.

You have done great and I have no doubts you can break this stall!

Hi Michelle,

I can't speak for the whole RNY thing but I feel your pain!  I've been fighting the same 5 pounds since around Halloween.  It's been one long game of back and forth!

I'm simply hoping that with the holidays now behind us I'll get my butt back on the right path.  I did see a 179 is my lowest to date.  Over the weekend I briefly saw 178 but it's now back up to 180!!!

ARGH!!!!!

Don't panic yet....hopefully it's just the winter funk and things will turn around for all of us!!

you may have heard this before, but I think it works, write down everything you eat, if you write it down, you will say oh my if I eat that I have to write it down. sounds corny, but I was like you, not losing and so today, I startedwriting down everything I ate, not one piece of cake or candy went into my mouth, even though my step-mom brought a big chocolate cake over here, I just resisted and trying my best to get back on track,

and I started exercising a week ago, maybe you could try that, you don't have to go to the gym to exercise, I do it in the floor, anything from toe touches, to jumping jacks, to sit-ups, start out a few at a time. I also have a step-stool ,and I have been stepping up and down on it, started out like 20 times, and in a week, I am stepping 100 times, 50 with each leg. you will get sore, but it helps.

I'm sorry your having difficultly... It's extremely frustrating! I am a band patient so I can't speak for RNY, But I do have these cycles where I eat, snack, etc.... it's depressing and so darn frustrating.  I agree with writing things down, Making a pre-made meal menu, so there is no second guessing... to me it's a vicious cycle, and it always takes a few days of "detox" before I get fully back on track..
good luck.. you can do this!!

Journal that food girl and then post on the accountability with us. That helps me! Well...except for the trip to DQ last night. I am not without shame either...

You guys are awesome!  Thanks for all the support and encouragement.  I did much better today.  I ate what I am allowed to and I walked 2 miles (1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon).

You all really helped me to get psyched up to do better today.  I know it is only one day, but today I feel really great.

I am so happy that I found this group!

Michelle, I asked Dr.Shina what he would say to a Bypass patient in this case and he said some good things.. He said there is a back on track packet, that if you dont have one all ready to call his office.. I would say ask for Holly and see if she knows what he is referring to..
He also said stalls will happen, that your body is using it to catch up,  He said as long as your eating less and exercising to be patient.. The tool works or you wouldn't have lost 100 pounds.. Keep doing what your doing and dont get discouraged..!!  That came straight from his mouth..
So you can do it!! Uping the exercise should help too!!! We will start a exercise challeng in a few weeks you are more than welcome to join!!!

Thanks Dawn! !   You Rock!!

I didn't know about the back on track packet.  I will call Holly tomorrow!

Did you see Dr. Shina to have your fill?  If yes, how did it go?  How is it going?

I did.  I did.. went well. and im now no liquids till I cant stand it anymore and I will progress accordingly... using these liquid days to detox off christmas sweets..  I think Holly gave me a copy of it but I haven't had a chance to sit and look at it... I told him that I wasn't sure what to tell bypass patients with issues and he was very helpful!! he was in a great mood.
