WLS 04/Gained back about 70 lbs

I had my surgery back in 2004 and lost 125 lbs, and now I struggle with gaining my weight back.  I do know that my gaining started back when I got addicted to 2 starbucks a day, everyday for like a year.  I no longer drink those darn things.   The funny thing is that I hardly eat anything in a days time, but I continue to gain.  I do consume a bag of pretzels in about 2 days, but that is the only real thing I crave.  I do still get dumping from time to time.  I can not tolerate breads or greasy things.  I can consume sweets from time to time, but to much will make me ill.  I do not know what is wrong with me.  I am sure as always its my habits.  I do find when I do eat, I can consume bigger portions, but no where near what I used to consume.  Heck it takes me like 2hours to eat my dinner in portions.  I am going to maybe have a surgeon look at my procedure and see if there is something he can do, to help me get my weight off again.  I loved the way I felt when I lost all my weight.  I do know that with my weight gain, that all my health issues are coming back, and I hate feeling so badly.  Anyone out there with a similiar journey with there WLS?  Would love to hear from others with the same issues, or similar.

Teresa, I'm sorry to hear that you are having such problems.  I don't have that problem, yet.  Have you tried the 5 day pouch test?   http://www.5daypouchtest.com/  or maybe you aren't eating enough daily so that your body can loose?  Do you use the daily plate at livestrong.com ?  Just some of my thoughts before you spend more money with another doc.  I'm wishing you the best of luck for a huge success to get back on the right track.  I don't think you mentioned exercise?  How much do you get in daily?
Hugs,
Pat

Hi Teresa - I am sorry to hear you are suffering and even sorrier I have no advice for you.  But I do want to share with you that when I was researching my surgery I frequently visited the Revision Forum here on OH.  I found alot of people who were suffering the same way you are now and learned so much from them.  I would suggest you go there and if you are interested in a revision make sure you see a qualified surgeon to get answers to your questions.

Hugs, and I wish you the best
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

I don't know about your doctor but we were told whatever you don't eat within 20 minutes leave it.  It could be that you are eating too much.  Have you tried keeping a journal again.  You mentioned that you don't eat much but how much is much.  How many calories are you eating and are you getting your protein in first.  Sometimes we are not eating the things we should eat.
Wish you the best of success on receiving the information you need to restart your weightloss process.

Once you have had weight loss surgery your body can become metabolically stubborn and weight gain is common. It can become even more difficult to lose weight after WLS. You may not be eating enough food. Google search your basal metabolic rate (BMR), specifically, BMR calculator and see how many calories you need to be eating per day to maintain basic body functions. You should be eating within 200-300 calories of that number (below) and exercsing daily. It's a concept you should read about and only for WLS patients who are 12 months and beyond.
