Airports near Somerset, KY
I am going to be traveling to have surgery with Dr. Husted in Somerset, KY. from Birmingham, AL. I have no family, and not really sure about being an impostion on some of my friends. I thought about flying there, and maybe having a friend come pick me up, or maybe even flying back. What would be the closest airport? BTW: I have never flown before, so I need flying for dummies 101!!!

Lexington airport is closer by about 30-45 minutes than Knoxville. Actually, Somerset has an airport with limited service. See this link: http://www.airnav.com/airport/KSME
You can check and see if your airport has service in and out of Somerset. I am failry new and don;t have a lot of info. If needed, I can pick you up at Lex airport and get you back to lex for your return flight as I am from that area and familiar with airport. Wouldn't be a problem at all.
Flying is easy as long as you check in ahead of time (2 hours before and pack properly). Whcihever airline you fly with you can get on their internet site and read all the detail you will need to know, and go exactly by what they say.

You can check and see if your airport has service in and out of Somerset. I am failry new and don;t have a lot of info. If needed, I can pick you up at Lex airport and get you back to lex for your return flight as I am from that area and familiar with airport. Wouldn't be a problem at all.

But think I have a plan. My surgery has been scheduled for Jan 22.
I have planned for a friend to bring me to a hotel nearby, and I will take a taxi to the hospital. I will stay in the hotel a few days until Dr. Husted releases me, and I will call her to come pick me up. She has to work and can't stay, and I understand that.
I have never been in the hospital alone, but the family situation at this time just did not lend itself to the prospect. Scared...but I am strong enough to do this thing, even alone. There are lots of people who travel out of the country alone, so a couple of states up should be no problem!!!
I see you are the program director, so will you be doing my teaching and instructions? I would like to meet you during my stay!
