Is it strange that I can't wait for my first fill?
I am already nearly recovered from my surgery...no pain and the scars are healing nicely. For a while, I had a limited appetite ( a condition I enjoyed) but now it is back with a vengeance. My fill is still weeks away and I am afraid that my weight may come back before the fill. Is this a common feeling or am I crazy?
JOHN,
I HAD THE BAN ON Dec.. 18TH. I GO BACK TO Georgetown on Jan.22. This is my first time back since the surgery.I am wanting a fill when I go back. I can eat whatever I want at the present time. I am not feeling any restriction. Please let me know if you get a fill. When was you Banded? So far I have lost 20 but I am also afraid of gaing it back before I see DR Oldhamn.
You are not alone!

I was banded on Dec. 23rd. My first appointment is in Feb.
I have lost around 20 lbs pre and post surgery and I hope to keep on that trend. My whole problem is that I was never one to eat large amounts of food. I was never the "all you can eat type". Chronic leg problems has made my exercise regimen very limited and I;m sure my food choices may have been a large contributing factor to my 400+ final weight before banding.
I will remain hopeful...

John....I went for my 6th fill in Nov and was finally able to feel some restriction! It varies with everyone. Look at Dawn...I am going next week for my 7th fill...just a small one. I have some restriction but not quite at my sweet spot yet. Hopefully this will do it! I am at 6.5cc in a 14cc band. Trust me when I say this...patience will get ya where ya need to be. Becka told me that this is your warm up time. Start practicing your measuring, eating habits, smaller bites, chewing, etc....You will get so used to it that by the time you do reach your sweet spot it will just have become second nature and alot easier. Worked for me. I just ignore my body at times when it says that I am full. Never fails I go one or two bites past and am miserable! I saw that you have leg probs...perhaps you could try sitting and working out. I got a workout video (richard Simmons) that deals with people who cannot stand and exercise due to physical limitationsa. She loves it! Ck it out! Any kind of movement to get that heart rate up and start that metabolism rate in the am will help! She even uses cans of veggies for weight! You could even use empty water bottle with beans, water, sand, etc...in them! Chair dancing can do it as well! Woo Hoo...
Everybody put your hands in the air and shake em like ya just don't care! Lol...ok...I know I need to stop. I am getting slap happy!

Hey John, I posted parts of this to someone else and it seems to be perfect to post agian-You are in that transition of BAND HELL LOL. Healing, with a small pouch but NO restriction because the band is not tightened around your stomach yet.
I had my band in November and have had 3 fills (up to 7.3 cc now) and I have to tell you... IT GETS BETTER HANG IN THERE! The band does not control your hunger...I think that is a common misconception-that you get the band and "wall-a" no more hunger and no more overeating...I like what someone else wrote-remember YOU put the food in your mouth. And also, really ask (at least twice) before eating something "Why am I eating this" Am I really BELLY hungry or head hungry or just wanting to do it because my hands aren't doing anything else right now?" The band will eventually create enough restriction that you hurt when you overeat-not a good feeling -but right now there is nothing to stop you and you have to do your best and be patient and try to out-maneuver your own head-games. Try writing down-HONESTLY writing down (or logging on the Realize/any diet tracker site) everything you eat each day, and review it at night....ask yourself your reasons for "cheating" or slipping when you do and then write down 2 or 3 better options for your choices when you do-don't beat yourself up; learn from it. This is a lifestyle change, not a temporary reprieve from our old ways and we have to put some checks and balances in place to make it a permanent change. No miracle fixes....but a tool to help us do what we could not do on our own.
Another good trick-DO NOT USE FULL SIZE PLATES OR BOWLS. I use only 4-8 ounce containers for my meals and when they are empty I AM DONE. I also eat with toddler utensils to slow me down. Yes, my stomach still growls but I decided to take up crocheting to occupy my hands (everyone got a blanket for Christmas..LOL) Only you can figure what works best; but I promise you....IT GETS BETTER AND YOU GET USED TO IT! Don't make the transition longer by pushing the envelope now.
A very good friend of mine who was banded over 2 years ago told me (and it is SO true)...you will NEVER feel "belly" full again; and you will miss that feeling and try to achieve it-but don't make the mistake of trying to eat until you feel full-you can't achieve it because 3/4 of your stomach is no longer used. You feel "done" or sated, or chest tightness so stop when your mind says "done" not "full". They are 2 very different feelings and you have to learn to recognize the "done" instead of trying to achieve "full".
Always-PROTEIN FIRST-it is more filling and what you need right now. GOOD LUCK!
