surgery 2/4/09

I just found out my surgery date. 2/4/09.  My new year's resolution is "Feeling fine in 09, thin in 2010 and heaven in 2011". I can't tell you how excited I am.  I have struggled all my life with my weight. I am sure alot of you know how it is.  However, they have told me I need to drink a Citrate Magnesia prior to surgery.  I can't drink that stuff.  I throw up just at the smell.  Does anyone know if the doctor can give me something else?  I am looking forward to the day that I can walk up the steps and nolonger be out of breath or when I can walk down stairs and feel no pain in my knees.  All I can say is Thank you Jesus!

I did not have to do the citrate magnesia.. There must be something else they can give you..

 That's the day after my surgery!  Where will you be in the hospital?  I'm at Surburban.  Are you doing the band or RNY?  Dr. Gellar is my doctor.  I live in J-Town.  Where are you located?

 I am going to Suburban and Dr.Gellar is my doctor also.  And guess what, I also live in J-town.  What a coincidence.  I am getting the band.  My pre-op and bariatric meeting is Jan. 15th.  Maybe we will see each other at one of the support group meetings.  Good Luck!!!!!!!

Congratulations on your surgery.  I had to hold my nose to get anything like that down and then I drank some Crystal Light to wa**** down before I let go of my nose.  I still tasted it but that's the only way I can do it.  And I know of another liquid but to me it's worse that the Citrate Magnesia by far.  Maybe he could give you pills instead.  A lady where I used to work just had a colonoscopy and they had her take pills instead of any liquid.

I had to drink that nasty stuff - I only got 3/4 of it down!
I mixed my 8 oz. "doses" with Crystal Light Orange, poured it on ice and chugged it down as fast as I could.....like little shots.......that is only way I could do it.

If you they can't give you anything else, just try to do a clear liquid diet for a few days before...........that way if you can't get it all down, it shouldn't be as big of a deal!

But, as always............check with your Dr. first!

Hi Leslie,  thanks for your post.  However, since I posted my message, I checked with my pharmacist and was advised to ask my dr if he would prescribe Visicol or Osmo Prep which is in a pill.  He advised I could take this instead.  My dr. has since prescribed this for me, so I think I will be fine now.  Thanks again and keep posting!!!!

Yeah that stuff is nasty.. Like Leslie said either mix it with a Crystal Light or ask is you can do a Fleet instead.. Same results... Mulitple stays in the bathroom..Not fun...

On the subject of the prep, the taste was bad but manageable if you just do it quickly. The aftereffects nearly killed me! Plan for nothing but living in the bathroom for most of the evening. I don't believe I actually got to sleep until 2 a.m. because of the constant need to go to the bathroom every few minutes. Truly horrible.

I have been down that road before for previous test I had to have done.  Boy, have you got that right!  By the way, John is also my husband's name.  I am wishing you a very happy upcoming birthday.  Thanks for your posts!  no1mimmie (By the way, that is what my grandkids call me)
