Vena Cava filter and then.....
New Year's greetings to all-
I go on Monday for my vascular appointment. Wednesday is the last pulmonologist visit for clearance and I finished all his tests on Friday. They "said" they would send out a clearance the day I have my appointment.
** so if all is well in the cosmos Dr. Shina will be able to review and send out for insurance approval very soon.
I hope to be able to tell you before February I am approved. That is my hope, but I don't know.

Then I have to figure out how to tell my mother and father. I am 99.9% positive Mom will be supportive- she was with one of my best friends, but being her child- I hope so. Mom will understand that I have done all the reseach I can and that I have thought it through. I love my mother and respect her soo much I do not want her to worry. My father on the other hand will totally wig out (but probably only let on a little bit) and try to convince me I do not need it. He often "doctors" himself holistically. He is very knowledgable Yet he would "like me to loose a few pounds". He is never mean or hurtful and ALWAYS considerate of my feelings, but he worries. I KNOW he will drive himself crazy with worry. Not gonna tell him til two days before. Mom and dad are divorced so she should be able to keep it between us. My one brother- the only one I told- slipped up and said something to the other- neither he nor his wife were to keen on it, but they can get over it-or not. I think once they read about it they will be fine.
*** thanks for all your encouragement to hang on thru all I have been thru in 2008

- Best of luck on the vascular appointment. I will keep you in my prayers that all goes well with it and with the pulmonologist visit on Wednesday.
-I hope you hear back from the insurance quickly.
-I understand about telling your parents. I finally told my Mom during Thanksgiving. She and I have the same type of relationship that you have with your Mom. Surprisingly, she was (and is) very supportive. I haven't told my Father yet, for exactly the same reasons that you are experiencing. I was going to tell him a couple days ahead of time as well. I know he will worry, so why make him worry between now and then, you know? When I told my Mom, I took every bit of information I had with me incase she had an questions (armed for battle, I guess). Maybe you could do that with your parents? Take any info you have with statistics and such. Just a thought...

Oh my go**** sounds like we could share parents
My mom was so supportive "even though" she was scared and worried. My Dad was nuts. I mean loving but nuts. I remember eating breakfast out with him one morning before surgery and he said to me ":you'd better enjoy that meal, it'll be the last one you ever eat". Alot of times I just nod and smile with him, of course, he can see now that I am fine and can eat normally. But there were days I wondered if he understood anything I shared with him about my surgery.
Best of luck to you in getting all your ducks in a row and everything figured out. Dr. Shina was the surgeon I chose when I was planning on staying in Louisville for surgery. I really liked him. I know you are so excited and the time will fly by!

I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you. Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information. Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

Hey Teach,
That is great news. I hope you get some speedy responses after your tests! It is getting close and I know you must be excited.
I am sure your parents will be ok and will trust your decision. Mine also worried. My father was worse and said he couldn't even come to the hospital. My mom said when she got home, he was sitting there crying. I wish I hadn't even told them until after it was over and done with! It may have saved them the worry. But............selfish me wanted my mother with me! I think fathers have a harder time with it because we are "daddy's little girls" no matter how old we get.
Best of luck and can't wait to hear when you get approved!
