Hello Everyone, My name is Emily. I am a 34 year old wife and mother from Kentucky. I have grown to a whopping 259 lbs. I now have diabetes, sleep apnea, asthma, and a list of obesity related diseases. I am so tired all of the time.  I spend most of my time thinking about all the things I am missing out on. I have finally decided to do something about it. I go for the “seminar" Friday. I hope it will be beginning of the rest of my life.  After researching, I found that this site seemed to be the most informative and supportive. I hope to make many friends here! I was wondering if anyone had a spouse that was not supportive of the surgery. If so, how did you handle it? Good luck to you all! Emily

Hi Emily
W-e-l-c-o-m-e!
I am a realtive newbie here, but there are some wonderful ladies full of support and answers here ont he KY board.  I am sure that when they get a chance they will greet you as they did me. They answer honestly and completely, with compassion. I have to say you are on the correct board!
welcome and I am sure you will find someone either here or on the main board whose spouse felt that way initially.  The thing I have read is if you can get them to talk to your surgeon have them go and do so. The surgeon will help aleviate some of the stress and worry.

Good luck

Hello, Emily!  I'm Kelly and a 34 year old wife and mother from Ky, too!  LOL!   I haven't had surgery yet, but am hoping to have Lap Band surgery in March or April.  I have to be followed by a doctor for 6 months before I can.  I am in month 4...so 2 more to go!  Have you thought about what surgery you're thinking about?  You seminar will be VERY informative...so will this board!  Just ask any question...no question to small, big or silly!  I have learned that these ladies and gentlemen here are very helpful.
Anyway, it's nice to meet you!  Let's keep in touch!

Hi Emily!  I ended up going to three of those seminars before I finally made up my mind.  There are alot of very supportive people here on the KY board - Welcome!
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

Welcome Emily!!

Congrats on making your preliminary decision.  Now you just need to research to the hilt until you know which type of surgery is best for you!  We have 3 surgical types with good representation on here (band, DS and RNY) but be sure and go to the main surgical boards as well.

It's a wild ride so buckle up!!
