vena cava filter tomorrow - arrgghhh
Ok, I know it's for my own good and it's no big deal, but I am already dreading the vena cava filter that's going in tomorrow afternoon (Friday). It's gonna be with sedation so I guess I'll be awake but silly. I will have to actually SHAVE MY LEGS tonight - no, they didn't tell me that, but I have SOME pride left. Not much, but some. Anybody have any funny stories from having this done? I wasn't required to have this done, but it was recommended, so I'm being on the safe side seeing as I weight 420 and am 53 years old.
Oh - if you don't have anything funny or good to say about it wait a few days and THEN post! LOL I don't want to be any more anxious than I am.

lol, I don't remember shaving my legs, but the vena cava filter, I thought was going to be a big deal, there was nothing to it, I had no pain or anything afterwards, so don't beat yourself up over it, I am glad I had it done, to me the worst part was just the i.v. lol. so don't stress over it. you will do just mahvelous dahhling!!!
I dont have a funny story ,but it was nothing.
I went to my fils bday party a few days after my vena filter was put in and then shopping and i got some strange looks cause it was on my neck and looked like a hickey.
Geuss they thought neil and i had been necking.
Honey it was the best idea, my filter saved me and was so worth the time it took to get it done.
I honestly remember no pain..lol
good luck sweetie

It was nothing for me too! What a relief! I stayed calm, everyone was nice and professional and it was over with in such a short time I couldn't believe it. And I haven't had one second of pain from it at all. Mine was in my groin so I don't have to explain a hickey or anything! LOL Hey, a hickey might have increased and improved my social life! (I'm a widow and have none LOL)
Thanks for replying - good to know I'm not alone.

You were so right - I don't remember anything much about it and it didn't hurt a bit! I filled the prescription for pain meds but I can't even feel anything - no soreness or anything, so I guess I filled it for nothing! I was a bit heavier on my feet than usual but otherwise no side effects or anything else negative from it. I just hope the gastric bypass works out well too, although I don't expect it to work out THIS well! LOL
Thanks for reassuring me - it helped!

I had my filter put in 11/20. It was a peice of cake. I was sedated, but to the point where they could talk to me and tell me when to bare down. Yep that was when it hurt like--well you know. It only lasted for a few seconds and I was out again. No pain when I woke up and never had to take any pain meds. I still have it. They only gave me a 2-3 week window to have it taken out. Since I am still waiting to hear from my appeal, I just left it in. Dr. Wheeler said he would have to put it back in to do the WLS. The worst part of it for me was getting the IV's put in---yep you have two! One is to run stuff thru to protect your kidneys. It took 3 nurses, 7 sticks to get the 2 IV's. But it is really nothing. Best of luck!
I don't remember bearing down or anything - the worst thing about it was the humiliation of being naked and obese - but then again they see this stuff everyday so it was probably no big deal for them. I hope you win your appeal so you can get good use out of your filter! Thanks for replying - it's good to hear from others out there who've experienced this.
