Every meal like my last supper while waiting for Ins approval

Prior to your LapBand surgery, did any of you try to eat everything you were told you will not be able to eat after surgery?  Oh my gosh, I have found myself drinking Pepsi (had about quit), eating pizza, cookies, and anything else I feel I will be "deprived" of after surgery.  How very foolish!!!!  If I keep going at this rate, I will have to literally be "rolled" into the hospital.

Tomorrow, is a new day and I will resume attempting to eat smaller bites, without drinking, and otherwise preparing for my new eating practices.  However, just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced such silliness too.

All paperwork has been submitted, just waiting for insurance approval to have surgery.

All your posts have been so helpful in my research for this WLS endeavor.  Thanks!!!

Ginger

I know this feeling too.  Before my RNY in October, I went to a few of my favorite restaurants and ate the things I knew I wouldn't be able to after my surgery. I made sure I had my fill of my favorite cookies...ice cream and pizza too. So please know you aren't alone in thinking this way.  Would I advise it? ...no not really. I didn't eat myself into a frenzy either... I didn't gain any weight.  I do hear what you are saying though.
I hope you get your approval soon!  And one thing to practice and is very helpful.  Put that fork down in between bites.  Really enjoy that food and taste it.  Savor it.  Don't rush.  Eating too fast can be painful after any WLS.  Take your time. I have a short video on my phone of me eating before my RNY. Let me tell you, all I have to do is watch this and I am not hungry.  I am shoveling that food in so fast that there is no way I am tasting it much.
Get out your pretty china... your nice silver and fancy glasses. I try to do this now when I am eating.  I eat on a small plate and use smaller utensils. But I make it an experience. Portion control was a problem for me. I first saw that little amount of food on my small plate and thought... "there is no way that is going to make me feel full!".  But your brain really does retrain itself.  I see my 4 oz of food on my small plate and some days I am thinking... "there is no way I can eat all of that!!"
Good luck Ginger!!  Thanks for posting.  You are not alone in feeling this way.
Blessings to you all, Leah

Hi Ginger,

Yep!  Been there, done that and have the T-shirt to prove it!

My "last supper" lasted for 6 months!!  LOL, I gained 20 pounds!  I was borderline 40 BMI when I decided to pursue the surgery and I ate my way up to a 42.3 BMI during that summer.

My last REALLY BIG hurrah though was a 7 day vacation at Disney world with free dining

I think they did have to use a fork lift on me at the hospital.

Banded life has been very kind to me though and hopefully it will be for you too!

Do you have a date scheduled yet and who are you using??

Thank you both for your words of encouragement and my reality check!!!  No, I do not have a date yet....everything is done, just pending insurance.  Drs. Weiss & Oldham are the doctors.

I started eating like that after I got approved and was waiting for my surgery.  Thank goodness it was only a couple of months or no telling how much I would have gained.  I had no self control because I justified everything I ate by telling myself it would be okay because Iwould never get to eat it again. Which really isn't true but it sounded like a good way to get to eat it at the time.  You will get your date soon and things will get better!!

I think it's perfectly normal to feel that way..
However I'm 4.5 months out from Laband and still can eat "just" about anything.. Just SMALLER amounts of it and SMALLER bites... You won't be as deprived as you think.... I make better choices but still have that 1 slice of pizza if I'm craving it... usually just make it alittle extra crispier! LOL..
Good Luck!
