Last night I attend another WLS seminar and the doctors that had this seminar have never performed WLS at this hospital. They do Lap surgeries like, gallbladder, acid reflux, etc. But they haven't done Lap band or RNY at this hospital. What do you gals think about going with these surgeons? I am not sure because I don't want to be their first patient, they seem very knowledgeable, just makes me kinda queezy. I kinda think I would want someone that has performed these things so much they could it in their sleep. Please give me your thoughts.

I want to go to KDMC, I know that as close to us, they are the BEST Dr's no doubt about it. Just looked into the doctors at Highlands to see about their experience. I totally don't want them to do surgery, because they haven't done any WLS on their own, just under other doctors. They are new....I am afraid that i can't get in at KDMC, I am not at the 40 BMI, but I have the comorbidities. I don't want to gain 20 lbs to qualify without comorbs. My PCP is going to write me a letter of recommendation, just hope that helps.....Thanks for responding....I also wonder if I will have to do another seminar with them because it has been awhile since the last one I went to .

I understand what you are meaning. Hopefully the letter will help. I'm not sure about the seminar.

I think I'd find another doctor

Try Dr. Husted at Somerset, KY - Cumberland Bariatrics
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

Hi Becky,

I went with KDMC and dont' regret it.  I understand being nervous about someone new doing the surgery.
On the plus side, sometimes a new Dr. will take more time and not rush through it because he/she wants to make sure they are doing it right.  All Dr.'s have been new at some point.

Good luck with your decision.

Leslie

PS  I purposely gained weight so I would qualify!!!!!  I am down 105 lbs. from my highest so it was worth it to me.  I lived on junk - doughnuts, blizzards, pizza, etc!  I think I ate so much bad stuff I don't even crave or want those things anymore even if I could have them!  LOL

Hey Leslie! I know that the KDMC doc's are the best. I just thought I'd check them out. They have some good future plans. They are intending on starting up a support group, the doc said they were in talks with the hospital about getting the wellness center one day a week for WLS patients only, so that patients wouldn't be under stress from seeing hard body, muscle bound people. lol  They intend to start alot of good programs. It's just the getting things started. Also they are thinking of starting water aerobics....Great plans for the future...Thanks for commenting...

Hey Becky!

I really wanted to go last night to see about the new program at Highlands but I had to work. I think that all doctors have to start somewhere.. Trust your instinct on this one, and ask many questions!

I think Dr. Husted is a great idea as someone else pointed out.

Hey! They have a lot of good intentions. It will take time to build their program. The doctor talked about alot of future plans, and he wants to start a support group for WLS patients soon. I am going to go to Ashland, I know alot of people that went down there and have nothing but good things to say about KDMC doctors.
