My husband is in the Army and there is a possibility we could be moving to Ft. Knox.
Is anyone aware of any DS support groups in the area?

I do not know if there is a DS only support group, or if there is one on the fort or not. I do know there are two support groups in Lousiville (45 minutes north) , and one in Elizabethtown (south of the fort) at Hardin Memorial Memorial Hosptial.  And the KY board here is a good place. The people are really kind and helpful.
Did you have a DS thru tricare? I have tricare but was told it would not cover DS, so I wondered.
Thanks
and good luck finding support here in the area if you make it here...It is really pretty here...nice seasons and reasonable housing.

Hi Sheila,

You might get a better response on the DS board itself.  There's only 3 or so DSers who post on this board and none of them are daily posters.  Vicki in a clamshell is a DSer who posts here more than the others and may be along to answer your Q soon enough but from what I've gathered there is no formal support group.  There are several DSers in the region though that get together informally for support and social networking often.

That being said, with Dr. Husted moving to the Bluegrass (Somerset), perhaps there will eventually be more formal support available to you guys!

Good luck in your info search and welcome to the KY board!

Hi Sheila - I am near Louisville and we are about as good as it gets for DS support - we meet once a month for lunch and invite other surgery types as well as people from Southern Indiana to join us.  Even at that we are a small group but we have some fun.  It's also nice to meet with people and get their perspective on life with the DS.  Our next meeting is Saturday at 3 oclock if you are going to be in town please come.  Let me know if you have any other questions about our area, I'm not that familiar with Fort Knox but Louisville is close.
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

Sheila,

I am also a DS person and we have a support group in Owensboro that meets once a month.  Owensboro is about 1-1/2 hours drive from Ft. Knox.  Our group has alot of DS people in it.  You can check out information about our group on Dr. Husted website.  We would love for you to join us when you can.
