My own rant

I don't have much time for the computer these days since I took another job..and you will see more of what's happning in my other post..I did't want to mix the two as the other is more personal.
I have had people email me..one actually left a voice mail and two more here on this site asking about my departure from Dr. Sonnanstine's office.  Please let me explain a few things.
First I have never been employed by Dr. Sonnanstine or the hospital..the time I spent with his patients and around his practice including a full first year of intensive training wasall volunteer.  I will say there were times I became frustrated (but never with him) that I could never find my place amoung the bariatric community..4 yrs was a long time to be frustrated..lol
This last few months was pretty difficult for the both of us as things were expanding and changing so quickly with him, the center and the hospital..rumors began to surface about him and others.  Patients getting impatient, the frustration was understandable.  Statistics tell us that in most booming successful practice**** a spirt at around 1,000 pts.  Growing pains some may call it.  Additional staff is needed...the doctor has more than he can handle on his plate.  Dr. Sonnanstine fought very hard for changes and more staff and finally with his most recent contract won the battle, some left..more came.  including an additional surgeon.
Pressure on a growing practice and the Medical Director is incredible especially if you are the perfectionist Dr. Sonnanstine is.
With so many changes..a growing mental health dept..two great dieticians and other staff members there just wasn't the need for a patient advocate.    I have told people over the last few months in a class..if they have any concerns, questions or struggles to take them to the appropriate person within the office.  Beit the doctor himself or someone else.  Many of us struggle going through our own changes and wish or hope to have someone holding our hand through the entire process.  It's just not possible, plus there simply comes a time we have to take on that responsibility on ourself.
This is where I felt I lacked...I felt I needed to move on ..move forward and make changes that suited me..made me feel productive and good abou myself.  I needed a job that I loved...a growing family that I adore and a husband who has taken a lot of crap..lol
I do believe when we walk down our own path and hit dead end..for me...prayer helps.  I went to my knees asking for help...the next thngs I knew I was offered a new position in a field I had become familiar with..."cancer".I worked on an oncology floor at a local hospital...now I was offered a job with a growing breast center. the offer was to good to pass up...we are working on accredidation..we are growig and expanding and having the same growing pans the Bariatric Center has felt now for a couple of years...and whoa what pains they can be.
My experience and association with Dr. Sonnanstine has take me to new levels I never expected.
I work now with 9 surgeons..have been in procedures and meetings wih oncologist , radiologist and surgeons.  I am working together with 2 nurses to write a new program for the clinic..it's incredible and I love it...I would not be here had I never met and learned from Dr. Tom..I will always and forever be grateful to him.
Because of my knowledge of laparoscopic procedures I have found and chosen a top notch heart surgeon who will remove cancer from my mothers lung within the next few days.   I would only seek  young well trained laparoscopic surgeon for this procedure...and we hope to be optimistic of the outcome.
ok that is my rant...I love Dr. Sonnanstine and will always recommend him..I am not leaving for bad reasons I am moving on to a great future thanks to his training and support.
Please understand that here is not the place to rant about doctors or centers..be proactive and fight for your rights......be patients and always remember they could be dealing with a persons life hanging on because they gave them the chance of a lifetime to have this surgery..to save thier life...personal information spread amoung people ..rumors..etc..about professionals is very hurtful for them and I would hope..we all can rise above that..turn those negative people off and away...think positive and change our life for the better..a brighter future is there for all of us...just grow and change..become independant and love life..
my best to you all...

Brenda,

I feel for what you're going through. Now that I have that out of the way, I hope this was not directed about my "rant" post. I try to be a very patient person but sometimes I just have to get it out. I did not put names out about whose office I was talking to.. Nor was I trying to "bash" them. I don't believe one person knows the reason I am talking to the new surgeon's office. My point in saying that is that I definitely kept it private.....just needed a comfortable environment to "get it out".

oh no Katrina..I can promise you this had nothing to do with your rant...it's other things I have delt with when people send me notes and emails wanting to know if I got upset wih the doc...if something happened that made me leave..and past notes that surfaced when other changes took place...yours was just fine..this is the place to come for those things..you were proactive and did exactly what I would have recommended.if you don't get a call back, show up at the office and refuse to leave until someone helps you..

good luck!!

Thank goodness. I thought "My first rant and I have offended someone" lol
Some people feed off of "drama" or what they see as possible drama .......some people can make a federal case out of nothing at all. & last, some people just need something to talk about.. And others are probably geniunely concerned.

Thank you for your advice.
I've prayed hard for this to work out, if it doesn't, it's not meant to be.

Thank you
Katrina
