The Norton process....
Okay so I got my call yesterday and I will be going to Norton and paying the program fee on Friday the 21st!!! I am so excited!!! The lady called me while I was in class so I could not ask her the questions I wanted to but I must know....What is the process??? I know that I am going to see the Psychologist and Nutritionist on Friday but what else happens... Just curious I guess. I don't care how long it takes I just want to be ahead of the power curve...
Thanks,
Tiffany

Hi Tiffany!
Fasten your seatbelt as it's going to be a wild (and fun) ride from here!
That appointment on the 21st will cover four things:
1) you watch a WLS video
2) you see a nurse who takes your vitals and talks with you a bit
3) you see one of the nutritionists (Jennifer or Casey) and they discuss healthy eating both pre and post surgery
4) you see one of the Social Workers (George or Mary) and they interview you for a psycho-social history along with desire and motivation for surgery.
After the appoinment they write up their recommendations to complete your packet and forward it to the surgeon you picked (or assign one if you didn't). This takes about 5 or so business days.
The next step is that the surgeon's office will call you for a consultation appointment. You'll have to pull your checkbook out for this appointment as well but if you are covered under insurance this one gets reimbursed.
My process was quick and easy once I got to the surgeon's level so I was banded maybe 5 weeks after that. Each person's mileage may vary though as your particular surgeon may have a long wait list or your health may dictate further preop testing than others.
Good luck!!

Are you still opting for Gastric Bypass?? I saw that listed on your profile.
If so, Dr. Rod can only do the RNY as an OPEN procedure. Drs. Allen and Tanner are the only ones in that practice who do it as a laproscopic procedure. That is unless the goup made changes to that since my sister had her RNY last year. She started with Dr. Rod but didn't want it done as a open procedure so she decided to go with Dr. Tanner who at the time was so new he HAD to have Dr. Allen in the surgical suite with him anyway so she got a 2 for 1 deal. She LOVES Dr. Tanner (as do many of us on this board) so you might want to think about him as an option too since his wait list MIGHT be less than Allen's.

Hi Tiffany and welcome to the board! I am a patient of Dr Allen and when I started this journey I wsa advised that it would be approx 6 months from seminar to surgery. Well my seminar was April 2007 and I had surgery Oct that same year! Six months. I wanted Rodriguez as well...but then went to Allen. I like him, but he is kinda on the quiet side. Dr Tanner is more the comedian and if I had met him... he would have been one that I would have considered. He has a bit of a warped sense of humor and I like that in a person. Either way...I wish ya luck and its great to see ya on here!
hi tiffany! i just talked to the clinic the other day. they told me that dr. tanner has a much shorter waiting list and if everything went like it should after my surgeons visit it could take as little as 3 weeks til my surgery date. i am probally going to go in dec for my evaluation. i hope all goes well for you good luck and god bless
