Thank you all for your kind responses.  Well, I spoke to the director of Norton's, who was very nice, and she explained to me why I was denied.  The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery does not allow any patient who has a dissociative disorder (and most of the time- people with borderline personality disorder) to have surgery.  So, according to her, it wasn't really up to the bariatric center and Dr. Geller (who apparently was contacted) -it's upto the Am. Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery to decide if I am a candiate for sugery.  She said it's just the same criteria as having a BMI over 40, and having tried all other possibilites.  I "just don't fit the criteria". So, unfortunately, bc of my mental illness, I can not have the surgery...anywhere...in the whole country.  This blows.....well maybe I'll try that Alli pill.  Oh, you know what I just realized?  I told them what my mental illnesses where before I even had the assement, before I even went to the seminar!  The very first question I asked them to call and get the information on the seminar was if they approve people with mental illness.  Well, I guess they didnt realize what BPD and a dissociative disorder was- i can't fault them for that I guess.  Thank again to all who have let my vent.  Guess I'll have to figure something out...

Sarah, I am so sorry that you have not had a good experience so far with trying to get the weight loss surgery.  I read your earlier post and thought of one of my favorite quotes when I read about your earlier experience with that "person" on the phone.  "Evidently, some people think it's in their job description to be rude to people."  I wish I had some good ideas for what to do next, but I don't.  Hopefully, there are some good answers out there for you.  Hope you can find them soon.  Best of luck to you!

I had sent you this before, but I am going to post it here for you to re-read....
Hi Sarah...I wanted to reply to your post since this is a personal issue for me. I am also bi-polar with manic episodes and major depression. Although I have never been hospitalized, i have had some horrible episodes to the point of suicide. Part of my depression is my weight. It has been a burden for my entire life and it sucks. I have been treating with my psych and therapist for about 4 yrs now and taking Lamictal for the bipolar. For me it has worked well. I am now on a new medication for the depression...Pristiq...so far so good.  I was upfront on the paperwork and answered all their questions regarding my disease and how I handled it. Apparently I was able to pass with this and have had my surgery. Perhaps it should not necessarily be an issue that you present them with rather let them ask you about it.  It seems the more issue someone makes of something...it appears they have not got it as under control as they think they have. the surgery is a huge mental adjustment. you have to be stable....and yes at times I have not been as stable as I have needed to be. But I realized it and worked the problems out and regained my balance so to speak. I would push for the refund...you put the inquiry out there before you even started so they should take it into consideration. Just my 2 cents
