I just mailed my packet off and am starting my 6 month weight loss per my insurance.  How fast is it for my first consultation with the surgeon/surgeon's office?  I've just attended a seminar only.  I am so excited about this and hope the process goes quickly!!

Hello. You may want to ask the question over on the Kentucky also.

I'm having surgery at KDMC and after the seminar it was about 3 to 4 weeks to go meet with the surgical weight loss team at KDMC.

Kelly-
Mine did not take long at all. They fit me in the first consult that I could take.  My doc only does those on certain days and that is what I had to work with. I would contact your PCP and get your records for the past 6 months, and see if they will write a letter of support or need for the surgery. When you decide  if that surgeon is the one you like you can see what they need you to have, but you would already have those things.  Once you are signed up with the surgeon, you can go get your blood work, and tests....try to get all that done and be waiting to finish your 6 month diet.  When the 6 month is done with the other stuff already submitted to doc, they will reveiw and send it off for approval for surgery.
I made a check list of what the doc wanted and when it was done.  I would also stress to you-especially- because of the difficulty I had (which admittedly was minor compared to some peoples)- place.make certain you keep a notebook who you talk to when and what it was about.!!! If you have NAMES,  times, and dates...they are far less likely to deny your call took place.
Good luck and if you have any other questions I can answer, I will. I am preop finishing my last test on Wednesday...happy, happy, joy, joy!!!!

Thanks, teach!  I've already started a folder and copied everything I just sent off to them (medical records and all).  I then mailed it priority mail WITH a signature confirmation.  I didn't want them to say that they didn't get it or something like that.  I didn't think about writing down who I talk with and when.  Although, Dr. Gellar's office has been really nice with answering my questions and such so far.

I am glad it is going well.  But, I do suggest  the phone log.  It saved me at least once.  I say keep going full steam ahead.
good luck
