I have a question about Ky Medicaid!!
Hello Everyone!! My name is Monica and I have finally decided that I am ready to start a new life. I want to be a healthy mother for my baby girl. I have Ky Medicaid and I am LOST at what to do. I can't find a PCP that "feels" like RNY is necessary. According to them it's the "easy" way out. I have been diagnosed with PCOS, Diabetes, High Blood Pressure and I have alot of joint pain. My BMI is 43 and I am 5' 2" and weigh 246. I have been overweight since 1997. I am wanting to find out if anyone has used Ky Medicaid to have surgery in Nashville? Or if anybody has a suggestion with what I can do to get the ball rolling! Thank you so much for your time!!! Monica
Hi Monica,
My insurance is also Medicaid. It was the easiest to get approval with. First of all you need a good PCP who will give you the referral otherwise you cannot be seen by a bariatric surgeon.. It's just the odd way Medicaid works. With your BMI alone you shouldn't have a problem getting approved. I will suggest you go ahead and document a 6 month supervised diet as it is a requirement now (has been with most of the new Medicaid patients). I'm not sure about surgery in Nashville.. The very first post on this message board shows a lot of KY surgeons who take Medicaid. You could also try posting this on the TN board. I know of a surgeon in WV who takes KY medicaid if you would be interested in going that route. I had a friend who went to Dr. Blaine Nease at Cabell Huntington Hospital his website is http://www.yourwls.com
If I can be of anymore help please get in touch with me.
Katrina
Edited to add: It is an "easy" way to lose weight in the beginning, with each surgery you have to be diligent in taking vitamins, getting in enough protein and water...Keeping it off long term is the hard part. Don't forget to research the DS, VSG, lap band.
