Top Secret Recipes version of McDonald's Sweet Tea
By Todd Wilbur
I know, it's just tea. Tea and sugar, plain and simple-probably the easiest recipe on earth! But I have been getting so many requests to clone the sweet tea that McDonald's is heavily pitching these days for a buck a cup, that I just can't ignore this product. Of course there are many ways to brew ice tea, and indeed McDonald's has their own formula. So let's do it. If you want to make ice tea the Mickey D's way, grab yourself three regular size Lipton tea bags and get some water on the boil. There's a cup of sugar in there, so this tea is pretty sweet if you drink it straight. McDonald's serves the real stuff from a room teprerature jug into a cup filled with ice. This dilutes the tea so it's not sweet when you take a big sip to wash down your fries.
2 quarts water
3 Lipton tea bags (standard size)
1 cup granulated sugar
1. Bring 2 quarts of water to a boil over high heat.
2. When water hits a rolling boil, take it off the heat, add the tea bags and cover the saucepan. Allow tea to steep tea for 2 hours, and then remove the tea bags.
3. Add 1 cup of sugar to a 2-quart pitcher, then add warm tea. Stir to dissolve sugar. Pour tea into a glass filled with ice to serve.
Makes 2 quarts.

This is great! Thanks for sharing.
I love their sweet tea, and for a dollar, it's hard to beat. But according to McDonald's website, the sweet tea has 60 calories per 8 ounces (and the large cup holds 24 ounces--for a whopping 180 calories for the whole thing).
Still, it's so good that I try to fit it in every couple of days for a treat.

I guess I am one of the lucky RNY'ers and don't dump! Oh well, thats just as bad as having all that sugar! I try like everything to stay away from it tho, especially since the closest McD's is 25 miles away! Thank goodness!!!
