Ok, its been a week, since surgery and I'm actually hungry. I don't go back to the doctor until next Wednesday, any advice? I have started on pureed foods....I haven't taken any pain or nausea meds, and I think thats why I'm getting hungry, because I'm not sleeping as much.  Any advice would be greatful.

Thanks

I am guessing that your body is missing "real" food.........and your mind is missing it too!  The first few weeks are the hardest.
Just try your best to stick to the diet your Dr. gave you and drink plenty of water / liquids/ SF popsicles when you feel "hungry".

I made a list of things I can do besides eat...................if I can find it in my profile, I'll come back and post it.  It is like a list of my personal coping skills!

Found it!  This was something that my NUT suggested I do when I was feeling hungry a lot!

Things I can do besides eat when stressed that have worked for me:

Take a long hot shower
Give myself a mini facial or pedicure
Go for a walk at the park
Spend time playing with my cat
Read a magazine
Clean out a closet or a drawer
Clean out the refridgerator.....careful with that one! Esp. if wanting to eat
Call or email a friend
Plan a vacation to anywhere
Write a note to family or friend who lives in another state
Start making a Christmas list
Experiment with a new hair color or style
Sketch out a house plan / garden plan

I have not experienced what you are going through as far as surgery goes but I do know a thing or two about hunger....I really think my protein shakes help me feel satisfied.  Even though I can get all my protein from food now I still use them.  Just an idea.  I really hope you feel better soon.
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

Im gonna add something that goes along with Leslie's list that I learned in Weigh****chers....brush your teeth and/or use mouthwa**** actually really works!
When I was newly postop I liked the way foods smelled but when it came down to eating them I couldnt. I would smell something that someone was eating & I would think, 'oh no, I really want some of that' but I soon realized it was just head hunger.
Well good luck to ya & hopefully this will pass soon, maybe take a few sips of water or shake & the hunger will pass. But I can say from experience that brushing your teeth works.
