School Started Today (pic inside)

Here is my lil man's 1 day of 2 nd grade !
He either makes a funny face, smiles really big or nothing at all.
He done really well this morning. I take him to school wait on him to eat breakfast, walk him to his room. he gave his teacher snack money and put his book bag up. I collected all the forms I gotta fill out and signed for his Code of Conduct Agenda Book and left.
Last year was horrible cause we were battling ODD. Actually we were trying to find out why he was so mean and angry all the time. He missed the whole first semister. After a 6 day stay at a hospital for observations his meds were regulated and he was finally getting back to normal. The second semister of school he didn't miss one day !
Tre' has ODD, ADHD, Mood Disorder and Anexity. Hoping and praying for a good 2 nd grade school year !

My heart goes out to you and to Tre.  I kept one of my grandchildren for his third grade year who has some of the same disorders.  It was my first experience.  It was very hard for him and for me in the beginning.  After the school, the teacher and the two of us got on the same page, he had a very productive year.  Of course then his mother decided to allow him to do some things that were against my house rules so he went back to her.  I really wish you all the best.  I came to realize that it is just as hard for them as it is for those of us working with them.  Take care, he is a very handsome young man.

Like I said he didn't miss any the second semister and everyone was on the same page and IEP set up !

aw how sweet it is this I rem those days now mine will be in the 11 so no more first days pics lol .our school starts in am so I ride the special needs bus & work with special needs kids ,so I am looking  forward to another school year ,best of luck with your son &  that things will be a great year :)

Holli just make sure you stay on top of the School system and make sure they on top of his IAP and are following the lesson plan to the T.  i middle grandson is  ADDHD first year at middle school was horrible cause we could not get them to set up a IAP until I got my sister involved who is a professor at Univ Of Louisville teaches master program for special needs children. She did some hardcore yelling and now he did great in 7th and hoping 8th grande will be a good year also.

Holli he is a handsome little man. I know that what he is going through is hard. I've seen kids at school have a hard time, teachers need to learn more about how to work with children with these disorders, they don't know enough to work with them. Seems like all they know how to teach is by the book and don't know how to go outside the norm.( They teach what's on the end of year testing and that's all they know how to do) They look at children with disorders as problem children,(trouble makers). So, you keep after them and make sure he gets the education he deserves and needs. Don't let the board push you away either, I have experienced this with my little boy. He doesn't have ADHD or any other disorder that I know of but he is a slow learner and the school systems want to push them aside and won't give them the help they need. I see it every day at work.
Well I'll quit rambling and I hope Tre gets the best education and attention he needs to progress in school.

Hi, Holly!  What a handsome young man you have there going into 2nd grade!  I hope he has a great school year.  As others have said, and I'm sure you know by now, the greatest advocate for his education is you.  Know your rights as a parent and kindly but firmly insist on the school providing your son the assistance he may need in reaching those IEP goals.  There should be brochures and papers explaining the different areas of the IEP and the school should provide you with these.  If you need any more info about this, feel free to get back to me.  I may be the Chorus teacher now, but I got my Master's degree in Spec. Ed. and taught in a self contained room 2 years and in a resource room for 2 years.  ALL children are precious and deserve a FAPE, a free, appropriate, public education.  (((hugs))). Here's hoping for a great school year for both of you.

How did the mom do though?  I remember having a harder first day than my son ever did.
He will be starting his junior year on the 18th............he drives himself now.
