1)  If you could give a "newbie" any advice...what would it be?

2) How did your family react to your decision to have weight loss surgery?

3) What is one thing about you that no one else knows?

Here are my answers:

1)  Get involved with a support group no matter how much you have support at home/work! They are going through the same thing and you will be surprised at what they can teach you !

2) BF- acted supportive..now mocks me for it.  Kids...try to be supportive but are busy with their own lives-teenagers....my older sister and mom think I took easy way out. Younger sister , step sister, step-mom very supportive and encouraging.  Friends...encourage and compliment the effort and commitment I have made.

3) That I get depressed to the point of suicide because of all the stressful situations in my life.

Anyone else want to try?

2. my family didn't want me to have it done, afraid I wouldn't live through it, and now they are all just amazed!! they were supportive though!!

3. I have a crush on someone that I have known for 10 years, and today, I met him for the first time, since I have had my surgery, he was shocked, I said you see pics of me on the computer, and he said yeah, but it sure ain't the same as seeing it in person. I am happy!!! lol

1. gather info...from physician, internet, literature and most important from the support groups. Don't be afraid to ask questions.. This web site has been my saving grace...

2. My immediate family, spouse and daughter, very supportive..( as of right now).i think they worry about whether or not i will be successful.. but i did this for me...i have met a few friends thru my journey  for wls. for them i am very appreciative.

3. I was so shy as a child i could not even talk to fellow students as a child.  When someone would speak i would stammer, turn red and just turn away. After i was grown, i found out that some members of my family and kids i went to school with thought i was "snobbish". Boy, they couldn't have been more wrong. Don't get me wrong, i talk now, sometimes too much ( i think i am trying to make up for beinq quite for so long..).. But overall in a lot of ways that shy , insecure person still lives in me..  my self esteem is very l-o-w....

1)  Pay close attention during the pre-surgery education!  You'll wish you did later.  Often people are SOOO estatic and in awe that they are having WLS that everything during this time goes in one ear and out the other!!  Unless you are lucky enough to have REALLY good aftercare from your group you will feel like a balloon floating without direction!  Part two of this is to establish a support/education network NOW.

2) There are five of us on my side of the family that have had WLS.  It's kinda like being initiated!  My husband's side of the family has no idea about either of us though!  We simply didn't want to be the topic of conversation for months on end from Dayton to Chattanooga.

3)  Hmmm, there are so many things!!  I guess that I'm person i'm VERY SHY and usually won't initiate conversation with someone I don't know (support group doesn't count cuz I'm used to you guys!).  Once someone else starts though you usually can't shut me up!!  Another one is that I'm claustrophobic.....elevators are fine but I can't stand to breath warm stale air.  No dutch ovens in bed for me!

I'm beginning to wonder if Dale is feeling threatened by the new Lee Ann and acting like a butt to cover it up??
