Hello from a new member! My name is Shea from London KY. I am 29 years old and weigh 240 pounds! Yes! I said it.... that private info that no one wants to talk about..... I have been yo-yo dieting for about 7 years now. Obviously I havent had much luck. Ive tried everything from diets, health clubs, diet pills like adipex, but nothing has worked. I can lose 20 - 25 pounds but then gain it right back.  My BMI bounces from 38 - 40. I have recently been looking into having the Lap Band or Gastric Bypass surgery.  My family and friends haven't been very supportive. They keep insisting that I am "crazy". They cant believe that I even weigh enough to be a candidate for the surgery. They tell me I dont need the surgery, that I should just diet and excercise and lose weight that way. I am so stressed out. I was hoping for support from them.
---- My question is.. has anyone else dealt with this kind of negativity? If so, how did you get past it?
Any advise will be helpful. THANKS

your family is probably just worried about you, my family wasn't very supportive at all, they was afraid I would come through the surgery, etc. I am 5 months out and doing fine, and everyone that I am around is glad I had it done, they cannot believe the change in me, I feel better, have more confidence now, etc. oh yeah, and I feel like i look a whole lot better also.
I talked to one of my friends last night, he has been my friend for 10 years and he said you know at first I was against you having the surgery, but wow look at you, you are so pretty and you have so much more self-esteem, I cannot believe you are the same person, and he said, I am glad you had it done, but he was against it.
Long story short, don't worry about your family, do it for yourself, it was the best decision I have made in 20 years, lol.
Good luck and don't worry about what others say or think.

my brother thought it was the easy way out... My mom said stop eating cheese.. I think we all go thru some form of not being supported enough in our family's.. You need to do what's right for you.. Explain it to them., tell them how much you weigh, how it hurts to move, or what you feel like when you look in the mirror so they can work toward understanding how u feel..
Good luck!!!!  I did lapband and have lost right under 80 pounds and I love my life....
