Has anyone here applied for a scholarship for a discount membership through the YMCA?  If so how long did it take to get approved?  I am going to turn in my paperwork tomorrow for it.  I hope I get.  They have so many things for my daughter to do I just can not afford a regular membership.

I did and got it within a few days. It was at the beginning of the year when you joined and paid a certain amount for however many days it was into the new year. If it was Jan 5...you paid $5)

Definitely go for it. I applied and was approved and it was the best thing I ever did. My kids love it and I enjoy the classes.

Hi nicole.  I sent my paper work in with a detailed story about myself and what I had accomplished and how I wanted to get healthy and be a better mom.  I told how my immeadiate family, husband and twin daughters where my concern. I received a phone call the day after I turned in  the paper work.  They wanted me to come in and fill out a registration form, they loved my story and pictures.  I was told it had to go before the board.  Needless to say I was turned down.  We made too much money.  We could get a discout of 3 dollars a month.  It was a huge joke.  We too couldn't afford it.  we make 50,000 for a family of 4.  Hope I didn't burst your bubble.  I was so sure I was going to get it.  I mean they called and wanted me to sign papers.  I was so disapointed.  I felt like it was another thing that I get turned down for.  It shouldn't always be based on income  There are people who get everything free and we work so hard.  I could vent a while.

Hope it works for you

know how you feel I was turned down also because we made to much money ,that is a joke my hubby is a retired Airforce man so we get a check yes but it is not much so he has to work also ,& I work for the school system so you know they dont pay much ,but any way we will not be using the YMCA either it cost way to much for me

Nicole,

I received a scholarship from the Burlington YMCA very easily, and was paying $11 a month.  As long as school was still in I was able to go every day because it was not far from Union where I teach, but as soon as school let out I could just no longer spend the money on gas to go from Walton on a daily basis.  I now walk the walking path at our city park most days.

I have nothing but positive things to say though!  They trained me on all the machines, and I printed out my workout every day from their computer.  It was great!  I worked out every other day and the alternate day I swam laps.  They were always very nice and willing to answer any further questions I had about the machines.

I hope you get it!

Maureen
