Pain is different for everyone.  If you are in pain and the meds they gave you aren't working call the doc.  He needs to keep your pain in check for you to heal quickly. Amy

My surgery was on a Wednesday and I went back to work on Monday with very little discomfort.

I had an On-Q ball that adminstered pain medication for the first 3 days before I took t out. I also had a prescription for Lortab (I think), but I didn't even fill it. I took liquid Tylenol for a couple of days before I felt brave enough to take e-z swallow Tylenol caplets. The gas pain was the worst of my pain, but I walked for 10-15 minutes every hour and took Gas-X regularly for the first week.

My worst day was Friday, but I felt almost normal on Saturday and went to church on Sunday. I slept with a pillow over my belly for about a month just to protect my incisions from getting hit (or jumped on by one of my cats!). The incisions stayed sore for several weeks, and my port incision hurt for about 3 months.

I didn't think the pain was extreme--just general discomfort mostly.

I had the lap-band on a Friday and took my last narcotic (percocet) on Sunday evening since I knew I had to take my daughter to school and gymnastics on Monday.  Was more uncomfortable than in pain by that day though. You're planning to have RNY, correct?  I do remember my sister was given liquid lortab as a pain killer when she had her RNY.  I don't remember how long she needed it though.  She also spent 5 days in the hospital so it's kinda skewed on her home experience since she was a bit more mobile by then.

I had lap r n y and they sent me home on loratab liquid, which I had an incision that about killed me for a month, I think it was sewn to something else, lol. it hurt bad for a month, just one spot. if it hadn't been for that, i wouldnt have even had to take pain meds, more sore than pain, except for that one nasty incision, and when it broke lose, there was no stopping me, I started walking constantly, etc.     also get some gas x strips before you have surgery, you will need them, the gas hurts worse than the surgery, lol.
