Humana-State Employees Question
Hi, I am new to the board and I just started my 6-month diet last week. I won't be able to get coverage through Humana on my husband's policy until January 1 (at open enrollment). I am worried, though, that the State may decide to drop weight loss surgery for next year. Does anyone know how much of a possibility that would be? I just don't want to make it to October (when I can sign up for coverage for next year) for them to say they have decided not to cover it anymore. I am planning on doing the lap band at Norton's with Dr. Shina. Norton's said I can turn my paperwork in in October. Does anyone know if there is anyway to find out now if they will cover it for next year? I tried calling Customer Service but they didn't know. Thanks!

Thanks for the information. I will be absolutely crushed if they decide to take the coverage off the plan. I am plowing ahead just like I will be covered though. My Mom has decided to have the lap band done and she has Medicare, so I get to watch her go through everything in the next couple of months since she does not have to do the 6-month diet. How fun! Thanks again. Dana
I have state employees insurance as well and won't know until before open enrollment what I will be offered. However, my open enrollment is usually in October. I would go ahead and get started and make sure you have everything documented correctly.
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you. Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information. Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

glad you asked - I was doing my six month diet waiting for approval for the RNY with Dr. Shina when I decided to go and see Dr. Inman and check out the DS. I didn't want to have surgery twice and wanted to research ALL my options before going under the knife. I found out that the best long term weight loss was provided by the DS and that I would be able to eat more normally as well. That was just part of it and I would be very happy to share more with you. PM me if you are interested in learning more, I would be happy to share my phone number or meet you for lunch somewhere.
