good news
Congrats Gee!!
Dr. Larson is a great doctor. He's got a bit of an odd personality but is very kind. You will enjoy the aftercare! Did you know he's the only downtown Norton's bariatric doc that has his very own dietician that you will see at every appointment you have with him? All the other docs either do the diet thing themselves or refer you back to the bariatric group. It's a nice little perk and Sarah (the dietician) is very friendly!
Once you get your approval you should get scheduled in for your surgery pretty quickly too. For both my husband and me is was about 2 to 3 weeks and we really only had to wait that long because of the pre-ops and that last bariatric education class with the group.
Depends on what he and/or your insurance wants to see prior to surgery. I was self-pay and mostly healthy so I only needed the cardiac clearance due to the high BP diagnosis I had at the time. My husband who was banded in April needed no clearances so it really just depends on the health of the person. After that they had to schedule the pre-op labwork, chest X-ray, EKG, etc. That's usually a week to ten days prior to the surg date. The day you go in for all that stuff you also go back over to the bariatric center for a couple of hours of education with the nurse, dietician and social worker. It's a long day but goes quickly.
Dr. Larson's office is in the children's foundation building. It is connected to the hospital by a pedway and to the Pavillion, where the bariatric group is by another pedway. Dr. Larson's office is on the 7th floor right now but is supposed to be moving down to the 2nd floor sometime this summer. Use the Gray street parking garage and go to the 3rd level to access the pedways.
