I have Lupus and 'dying' to have wl surgery. drs & surgery they perform

I need to here from someone that has lupus that has had surgery in Lexington or Georgetown, Ky.  I need to know which surgeons that will do the lap band if you have lupus and the ones that will do laperscopic RNY.  I had my mind made up to have the lap band and just found out that I have probal lupus for over ten yrs.  That's right,  I was misdiagnoised & treated for with MS.   Please Help!!  Kathy C

Kathy, my suggestion would be to attend as many free seminars as possible, at that time you can ask the questioins you need and get a feel for the surgeon and others from the center who attend. If you look at the left of the page here..click on "find a bariatric surgeon"...go to events...it list all of their seminars, etc.  Good luck on your search

Lupus and scleroderma are contraindications to gastric band surgery (Lap-Band and Realize) because of the very high risk of band erosion. I would not perform a band surgery on a lupus patient. But I do perform lap gastric bypass on Lupus patients. Also, sleeve may be an alternative in a lupus patient.

Would you enlighten me to why this would cause band erosion?  Also,  I have Sjrogens Disease..and they have tested me for Lupus but test are not going that way but I am on Plaquenel. Will there be a problem with me getting the lap band? Cheryl
