I have Humana and am required to do a 6 month weight management with my family doctor before I can even be summited to get approved. Next month will be my 3rd month on it but it sure seem*s like it is taking a long time. Anyone else having or have had this problem?

I have Humana as well and yes I agree the 6 month thing sucked. I was so scared the entire time that they were going to miss something at my doctor's office and my time would have to start over. My advice is to use this time to start to make changes and to mentally prepare yourself. I tell others to start practicing the no drinking while eating, eating small portions, cut some things out now so afterwards it is not such a shock.  Hope these words of wisdom help. Good luck to you.

Princess LC, I have Humana and of course had to do the same thing. BOO!  The good news is it looks like you're almost 1/2 way there.  My biggest hurdle was making sure that not only was my family doctor's office faxing the monthly records, but that my surgeon's office was actually receiving them and keeping up with them.  Whatever happens, don't get discouraged!!!  Keep on keeping on- your day WILL get here!!!  Best of luck to you and let us know how you're doing.  Peace.

I am having my doctor keep all mine in my chart. I am turning my packet in after my 4th month. That is what the surgeons office told me to do. I am almost 1/2 way there and I am very excited I just hope that this surgery date comes before others that I will need if I do not start loosing weight soon! Which of course all of them are A LOT more serious then this. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I can stay well enough til I can have this done!

I too have Humana.  Humana wants everything covered from A to Z and i's dotted and all the t's crossed.  If you mess one thing up, you will have to start over.  However, it sounds to me like you are well on your way.  I messed up not once but twice.  The first time I went for six months but not six consecutive months.  I started over making sure I had an appointment each month.  Guess what?  My doctor's mother died and they had to change my appointment.  Which was fine but then on the date they gave me...I got sick and ended up with surgery.  I didn't know they had to be consecutive months until the second mix-up.  Just make sure you do SIX CONSECUTIVE MONTHS and you will be fine.  My doctor's office was absolutly wonderful with everything they did for me.  I was finally approved and my surgery is June 10th.  If you trust your doctors I am sure that part will be ok.  I also did follow-up calls to my insurance company.  I had to go through appeals because I had been denied two times.   With all of that being sad.  If you do your six months consecutively....making sure your doctor is documenting your weight, blood pressure, what you are doing for weight loss, etc.  you should be fine as long as you fall into one of the two categories Humana offers.  I can't really remember them.  Have you PERSONALLY called Humana and talked with them?? I would also suggest every time you call you document who you talked with and the time.  ALso, ask the customer rep to always document on the computer what you called for.  TRUST ME is will be easier in case something happens in the long run.  I wish you the best of luck...God Bless

I think that is what is worring me the most not so much the six month*s but the not knowing if after these 6 month*s I will get approved or not.

Yup, I did it too - it did suck but ultimately I am glad I had the time.  I ended up researching more, changing surgeries and changing surgeons.  I found out so much that by the time my surgery date arrived I was able to lay on that operating table with no hesitations or regrets.  Use the time to your advantage!

I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.
