I was told by my Ins. Co. that BS wasn't covered but that with a letter of medical necessity that I may be able to get it covered so my PCP told me to choose where/who I want to perform the surgery and she would refer me to them and write any letters necesary to move the process forward. My question is how did you choose where to go? I know there are lots of you who used Dr. Sonnanstine but Florence is a bit far for me to drive. My uncle went to Georgetown for his which is a strong possability for me as the offer the lapband that I want but the frontrunner, for me anyway, seems to be Dr. Greenlee and Dr. Steiner even though they only offer the RNY. It is mostly a convenience thing for me because I can get to St Joe East in a matter of minutes(20 to be exact) but I am open to suggestions.

Try this site: http://www.asbs.org/html/about/searchexpand.html someone sent it to me in an email and it'll be the best site for finding a qualified surgeon who is close to ya. Good Luck! Katrina :-)

I would decide which surgery you want first, research them all - LapBand, RNY, DS, VSG and make up your mind which one you can live with for life.  Think twice, cut once.  Revisions are risky and you don't want to have to put your body through that.  Once you've made up your mind then you can start looking for a surgeon.  Bonus, when you finally meet your surgeon you will already know what kind of questions to ask because you will know all about the surgery!
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

I am a patient of Dr Steiner and had the RNY.  I absolutely love him.  He has an awesome bedside manner and has never been too busy to answer questions, in fact he wants you to call!  That means so much when you read posts about people not getting good follow up care.  Like the previous post you have to decide on the procedure, my insurance only covered for the RNY (which was fine because that is what i wanted) so i was denied at first, then 4 years later when my health problems intensified they approved me in 4 days.  I started at 268 lbs and 8 months later i weigh 130 lbs!!!  I am Soooo pleased with my RNY and all the care i get from Dr. Steiner and staff!  Good luck and keep us posted.
