Hello,
According to my surgeon and NUT, once I reach optimal restriction I should only be able to eat about a cup in volume MAX per meal. LOL....I'm still waiting for optimal restriction though!! I can still exceed 1 cup when I let myself which is not very often! Then again, some days are easier than others.
You have to remember though that we've had two different surgeries so it's kinda like comparing apples and oranges. I'm of the understanding that with the bypass you're portions will be smaller than a person with the band. My Sis had bypass a year ago now (5/07 with Dr. Allen and Tanner) and from what I've observed she is close to that 1/2 cup (maybe a tad more) mark as well. She's lost close to 100 pounds now. Weightloss with bypass is much more rapid as a result of the reduced volume and malabsorption factor and sometimes I get envious but i'm very pleased with my progress which is said to be right on mark for my band. I've lost half my excess weight in 6 months which has me estatic! I am scheduled for a fill next week but I've lost about 15 pounds since my last visit which was 8 weeks ago. I doubt he will offer me the chance for one and i'm considering declining it if he offers anyway. Just in the last couple of weeks I've done really well with the weightloss and the general rule is to keep the band as loose as possible but still lose weight. The tighter a band gets the higher the risk for complications.
How is your weightloss so far?? I bet it's falling off like gangbusters!!
Well, it's almost time for me to get my kiddo up and ready for school ( she graduates from preschool this week) so if I want coffee and a shower first I need to do it soon!
Have a great day!
Sounds like how my sister started out! She developed an ulcer almost immediately but just assumed it was part of the process so she didn't get it checked for a few weeks. She couldn't eat more than a few bites before she would be sick. She dropped a lot of weight during those weeks. She's continued to loose steadily and now days since she's so small anyway even a little weightloss is VERY noticable. Sounds like you are feeling good now though. Good news there! BTW, you are doing a KILLER job on the weightloss!! Do you ever go to the Norton's support groups?
