I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

Wow.........you eat 87 carbs in one day?? or is that per week??  that's a  lot of carbs.  According to my doc and nut your calories are a bit high.......carb is extreme but protein is pretty good.  does you surgeon have you seeing a nutritionist before and after surgery at all?.............

Hi! I actually have 2 NUT's.  One is with the bariatric group and I see her maybe once or twice a month (at group meetings) and she's available to me by phone or email.  The other NUT that I see is with the surgeon's office.  I see her at every appointment. According to both of them I'm right on target!  The one at the surgeon's office is pretty lax.  She basically tells me to stay under 1500 calories, get 60+ grams of protein and avoid the "white" carbs.  The one with the bariatric group has me use the following formula:

1200 calories max per day, get at least 60gr protein a day, no more than 40gr fat per day (I did go over that one!) and less than 150 carbs per day. So the 87 carbs was actually on the low end for what she recommends.   Go figure....diets are like politics and religion, not too maby people follow the same rules!! What are your guidelines???

Hey Charlie- every center and nutritionist as well as surgeons are different.  I don't know any nutritionist but do know several of the areas dieticians.  And it's' true that many of them are different.  I suggest any  one who has had RNY or band to go to their center for answers.  And don't necessarily go to someone outside of that circile..the nuts and dieticians I have spoken to who do not deal with surgery patients and don't keep up with what;s happening in our world seem to be a bit out of touch..lol I personally try to keep my carbs very low...when I am working on my own personal program I try to stay around 50-60 carbs..if I want to lose weight I drop them down to about 25...I have gained a few lbs in the past but never had a problem dropping them quickly buy using my own approach.  YOu have to find what works for you...right after my surgery and during the weight loss phase I work a low carb diet..I lost quickly and never had a stall.  So definately carbs are my enemy..lol Any questions go to your wife's handbook..I know she is going to Dr. Sonnanstine, the dieticians there are pretty awesome.
