Can someone help me?!
I contacted Vicki, the insurance guru. She replied and did some research for me. I have United Healthcare insurance. They will cover my surgery with a BMI of 35 and 2 comorbidities. When I contacted UHC to find out what the comorbidities are, they wouldn't tell me. They said this is because if doctors knew, then they would always be putting them on Lap Band request letters for clients and that their approvals were based on a case by case evaluation.
Well, Vicki was able to somehow access their physician's website and has apparently found their comorbidities. This seems like such and small/short list to me though. I will give you the list she emailed me. Please give me any advice/suggestions. I have several comorbidities. I'm seeing Dr. Dwayne Smith. He said UHC is usually pretty good to deal with. I have completed all of my prelim appointments and psych evaluation, as well as my nut evaluation. However, now I'm really nervous because I feel like I don't stand a shot in the dark. Please help. I've also posted this on the main board and PM'd Vicki again. Here is the list she found for UHC.
Cardiovascular disease, Hyperlipdemia, uncontrolled by pharmacotherapy, Type 2 Diabetes uncontrolled by pharmacotherapy, Hypertension uncontrolled by pharmacotherapy, Moderate to severe sleep apnea with a respiratory disturbance index (RDI) of 16 to 30 (moderate) or apnea-hypopnea index (AHI)>30 (severe) as documented through the completion of a laboratory based polysomnography.
I have none of these. HOwever, I have Asthma, Depression, GERD/Acid reflux, Hiatal hernia, Osteoarthritis, Degenerative Disc Disease, Stress Incontinence
Thanks,
Melissa
