How come?

So just a quick question for you all. How come no surgeon in Kentucky  will perform the lapband procedure on someone that is 18 years old?  i know its a little late asking this question now because i have already had the procedure done. but i every time i go for a fill, adjustment, and or follow up visit i have to drive 2 hours to get to my surgeons office. it is impossible to make  appointments with out missing school. it is starting to get ridiculous, my surgeon has me come in every 4 weeks. thats 2 hours there an 2 hours back of drive time. Would  any surgeon in Kentucky possibly take on the rest of my after care? an at 18 years old i dont have the money to be paying for gas to run there an back, as well i have already missed 4 days of school for appointments. any advice out there

Hey Kristen, I'm not sure but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to call around to the local docs!  I can tell you mine requires $1000 up front for a tranfer patient, at least that's what I think they said when I was asking about it when we were thinking of having hubby's in Mexico.  It's pretty darn steep if you ask me but there might be others who will charge less for the inital fees or even nothing! Doesn't Dr. Curry have Saturday hours and one late evening when he's open?  It's been a while since I've looked at his website so I might be wrong on that (his initial transfer fee was $300).  Good luck!

Hi Kristen I just spoke with Dr. Sonnanstines office and I asked them about you while I was on the phone and she double checked and they do take 18yrs old and they will take you as a transfer patient she said she doesnt believe there is a transfer fee or anything you will have to make a appt with them and bring all insurance info and your records other than that she said you should be good to go! I cant say enough wonderful things about Dr. Tom you will love him! We are in Florence ky which isnt very far from Lagrange maybe 35-45min drive .... and he is well worth it!!  Good luck his number is 859-212-4625 and if you have any additional questions please dont hesitate to ask!!!

Kristen, the question I would have to ask is whether or not your surgeon charges you for a fill... if not then realize you will pay for them at another surgeons office, that is not cheap.  Along with any expense you may have getting there and back, such as gas..etc. Most surgeons would take you at 18..I don't see that as a problem. Dr. Tom is an awesome doc and very supportive.  But beware there is going to be a cost.  You can see him one on one first...he will answer any and all of your questions at that time.  I believe it's worth the time and effort to get your questions answered.
