Questions

I am in the process of trying to have the gastric bypass at St Joe East.... I was curious what items do you need to buy before the surgery... I read some place that you would need a magic bullet?? I would like to get a jump on some of the items... so I will not be so hard pressed at the last minute.. fingers crossed my surgery will be sometime in the next 5 weeks... Jennifer in Berea

Hello Jennifer, I had planned to buy a magic bullet but did not and found that I did not need it.  It really will depend on what kind of protein you choose.  I use Unjury chocolate mixed with super skim milk.  I bought some little plastic jugs at Walmart and I can mix and shake it until it is well mixed.  I have used a blender with the Unjury vanilla and milk and added peanut butter to make a peanut butter shake.  Just make sure you have your protein and vitamins on hand along with creamed soups, SF jello and pudding mixes and SF popsicles and fudgsicles etc. to get you through when you get home from the hospital.  You really do not have to buy special things unless you choose to.  GOOD LUCK!

Jennifer, I am from mount vernon, ky!!! we are neighbors!  I also went to St Joe EAst and had Dr Steiner!! He was and still is wonderful, not sure who you are seeing but they are all really nice.  I would make for SURE that you have found a protein shake that you can tolerate.. the only one i can do is the adkins. I still have to have shakes to get my protein in.. and somedays i still cant.  I have never found the protein bullets but at first you will be lucky to get in all your fluids (which is most important at first) then the protein but if you drink the protein it also counts as fluids for the day.  I stocked up on sf popcicles and bullion cubes..plus my shakes!  Good luck and keep us posted.  Deanna

they have unjury at the clinic at st joes,   i get mine at our local pharmacy.  you can also get it online there is usually an ad on the main forum for it... i didn't get a magic bullet, but got a small personal blender very similiar to the magic bullet  it's from from hamilton beach at walmart is was only about  15.00 compared to 45.00 to 60.00 for the bullet... and it works great..just right for a single serving.  walmart also has a good protein mix and it's not as pricy as unjury...  you will learn a lot in your nutrition seminar...they even have a list for ya what you will need. happy easter...   Belinda 

I got a bullet but it wears out to fast for the cost ,so if I was you just go buy a cheap blender itwill do just fine ,yes sugar free pop cycles are good when u come home & soups clear ones ,most import thing is like said above just sip your fluids  when u get home & best of luck you will do just fine it is a life changing event & the best thing I ever did

just remember what you like before surgery doesnt mean you will like it after surgery your taste buds will change.

  I buy my Unjury online at thier website.  It is a *****eaper online that at our Hopsital pharmacy plus I buy 4 or so at a time and you get a discount if you buy more than one.  You may want to get some samples before you invest in several canisters.  The chocolate tastes like chocolate milk to me but not everyone likes it.  Try it for yourself-- GOOD LUCK!

Thanks everyone! I went for my appointment yesterday and had the stomach test it went great! Now waiting for all the test results to come in and then they send to the insurance company.. They say I should know something in a week or week and half.. mini hugs Jennifer
