A great lesson learned

I am three months out and just now exploring new eating habits.  "Live and learn".  Brenda told me to write down everything I ate yesterday then call her back.  This morning we sat and talked about what I did wrong.  What an eye opener.  This is all so new and mistakes can happen.  She tells me so many make the same mistake in not reading labels.

Here is what I found out.

Yesterday morning I ate Quaker Oatmeal in the packet.  I didn’t stop to think or read the label.  As we were going over these, she would tell me to go get it and read the label.  I sighed and wondered, why she is making a big deal out of it.  When we were done this is what I found I had done wrong.

I did not think about the Oatmeal and grabbed one in the cupboard that wasn’t low sugar

12 sugars, Oatmeal.  (strawberries and cream)

11 sugars, 2%milk

6   sugars, bottle of propel water

4 or 5 sugars for that darn peep.  (We divided and guessed on that one.)

I had a total of 33 sugars within an hour.  I thought I was doing so well!

Bad thing is (and she laughed at this one).  I was trying to wa**** down with the Propel instead of plain water, adding that 6 extra sugars.  No wonder I thought I was dying.   Angels are wonderful creatures.

WOW Im glad Brenda could help you firgure it out. Im afraid to put anything with sugar near my mouth. I had a few peices of sliced strawerry and sugar free cool whip it was awesome. also cottage cheese with no sugar added pinneapple has taken away the urge for sugar. Hope you feel better now you got it all in check. Isnt Brenda awesome. Love ya Brenda Happy Easter

Hey Nancy..Happy Easter to you too!! The thing Kit didn't think about was what I call hidden sugars.....she just simply didn't think about milk having sugar..or the Oatmeal..she thought of them as being healthy foods..and she is right, but without reading labels and counting those sugars..especially in the beginning we often over look them until added up they kick our butt.  I can't stress enough about reading labels..don't just look for sugar but high carbs as well.  I don't get sick on these things and that's probably because I just simply watch what I eat.... but if I do eat to many carbs I start feeling bad..I will have a headache one day..sluggish and then stop to think what I had to eat the day before..I realize I had to many carbs..maybe good carbs but still carbs.. Also watch out for protein bars and drinks..count those sugars as well...beware of "sugar free"...I know you guys were told all this stuff in class, ..but a sugar free treat sounds good...I had a peice or two of candy and had the worst stomach ache of my life..talked to Dr. Tom and he told me get some gas X..I was upset with him..thinking here I am dying and he wants me to take Gas X??..but he was right, sugar free candies, cookies, etc kill me..so beware! Cool whip is a good thing too..unfortuntely I am lactose intolerant..so I can't use it..but I have found lactose free at Wal-mart..other stores carried it but I can't find it today..I think Meijers has it in the can.  And ya want a good treat..throw slices of fresh pineapple on the grill...YUMMMMM... speaking of lactose..look at my reply to Kit's vitamin question.. Have a great weekend....
