I keep forgetting to ask this...but where do you find the snicker's protein bars? I wanted to try them....
I've found them at Walmart and at Kroger. The ones I like best are the Caramel Nut Rush. They are 290 calories and 21 protein. Since they are a little higher in calories I consider them a whole meal replacement or eat 1/2 as a snack. A box of six cost about $7.50.
My other favorite is the Twisted Protein bars. They are 190 calories and have 15 grams of protein. I bought them at Sam's club but have seen them at Target too.

I was always told to stay away from protein bars. I have been told over and over by someone, won't mention any names (Brenda). That I need to learn to eat food. To many hidden calories and sugars in some things. Is the protein the right stuff and are we really getting what we need out of them. Besides, I buy a box and might not be able to control myself. So true, I found myself wanting more. At my office they prefer we not eat them and tell lapband patients to eat just like RNY patients. Not saying that I wouldn't have one once in awhile, maybe.
Your doctor's office recommends them?
Hi there Lovekitten,
I actually think it's one of those things that's open to debate but when it comes right down to it I'd certainly always go along with what your MD prefers for you.
My MD pretty much leaves the dietary issues to the NUT and he covers the "mechanical" issues. Sarah (the NUT) knows I use the bars and so long as they fall within my daily allowances i'm fine. I'm supposed to have no more than 1200 calories a day, have no more than 40 grams of fat, have no more than 150 grams of carbs per day and get at least 60 grams of protein.
The twisted bar has 190 calories, 6 fat, 21 carbs and 15 protein
The snickers bar is 290 calories, 10 fat, 40 carb and 21 protein
According to the numbers either one fits into my diet and they certainly are handy when I'm on the go! I'm also of the camp that if I could have eaten only the purely healthy stuff I wouldn't have needed WLS to begin with. Knowing this, if I plan accordingly I can have my "treats" not feel deprived and stay away from the truly forbidden stuff (I haven't had a real Snickers since Halloween)!
LOL....wouldn't it be easier if all the MD's subscibed to one set of rules? It's just like the great soda debate, even the various MD's in the bariatric practice here can't agree on that one!
