hi
I had the filter put in on a Friday and my RNy on Monday. They give you the conscious sedation medicine so your kinda awake really relaxed don't really know what's going on and don't care. I was a loser though because my medicine didn't take and I felt a lot. I was up after and back at school the next day for class. Just make sure you have someone to drie you home and be with you. I am so glad I have mine, just makes me feel better about things, ya know.
Good luck!!
thank you for the kind words, I figured it was something like a heart stint, sure sounds like it now, I have never had a stint before, but my aunt has. do you know if you have to hold your leg still for a long time, did they do it through your leg, or your jugalar vein. I really would like to be asleep, i am big chicken , i guess in a way. lol. thanks to all of you for info
Don't worry....truly, it's not that bad! I had one done before surgery last year. I don't know how your doctor will decide to place it....but mine went in through my neck. I had the 'conscious sedation' that was mentioned above so that I was aware of everything that was going on....but I was VERY relaxed. I could feel pressure but no pain during the procedure.
After it was over, I stayed at the hospital for an hour or so and then they let me go home. My neck was sore but not too bad. I just took some tylenol that night and I was fine. When I took the bandage off, it looked like I had a mosquito bite on my neck and it was tender to touch.

I had a filter put in on a Wednesday and had my RNY Friday of the same week. The actual procedure only took 10-15 minutes and I was only at the hospital for about two hours. They put mine in through my groin area. I was barely sore afterwards. Just made sure to take short steps because if I took very long ones I could feel some discomfort. Good luck.
